updating Listen / Computer phrase help?
« on: August 22, 2012, 12:11:22 AM »
I saw the videos and honestly have run into several occasions when ambient and errant dictations of "COMPUTER" happened. I'd like to use some of the cool pop culture computer names of my time but everything I tried doesnt work at all, I know HAL and JARVIS worked per some youtube videos?
I tried to update the phrase line in the voicecommands.xml....but no luck?
I'd like:
Jarvis, Teletran1, ...a myriad of others but to no avail so far?
Help friends?

I hope i understand you right. I guess you want to change the prefix. You can do this in theoption menu. Look here: http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Options#Prefix

p.s. welcome to the forum!  :)

Not exactly, I'm aware of the prefix and tried it briefly before heading to bed. Definitely think that is interesting and tried Jarvis there and it seems to work.
I initially was writing hoping I could change the default phrase, for LISTENING, because "computer" is somewhat problematic in shows and just normal conversation sometimes and although works great in ST doesnt work so great sometimes here.

Ah, ok.
Then you have to click on "Edit" in the main window. Now you can change the phrase of the "Listen"-command to whatever you like. You can seperate different phrases with ",".

You can change the "default phrase" in the command editor. Click "edit" in VC main window and search in the tree on the left the "listen" command and edit the phrases with double click on it. Don't forget the comma between the phrases.

For more info about functions for VoxCommando take a look in the Wiki-tutorial

Thanks gents, I guess I should have been clearer, I tried that but I guess all the names, its just having a tough time understanding them the way I'm inputting them? which is weird, cause when I used "jarvis" as a prefix worked fine, but if I replace COMPUTER with JARVIS for the Listen command, then it didnt work at all, and 'computer' still worked

I did, also manually closed and reinstantiated it.  Seemed simple enough but whatever I did seemed to not register.
I tried Jarvis, Mission Control and a few others and Computer still worked  ???
I was actually looking up some tutorial videos and it errantly registered and started flipping my xbmc off hahaha, so yeah I'd like to change COMPUTER :)

try the following: disable the prefix mode and test now "Jarvis" as phrase for listening. If it works well - you can enable the prefix mode but if you use it, you must say: Jarvis - Jarvis

The first "Jarvis" activate VC with the prefix and the second "Jarvis" is the phrase.

It is not recommended that you have a "phrase" using a command that is also the prefix, VC can not differentiate between.
You can use "Hi Jarvis" as the listen command.

Oh yes I'm not using both at the moment, I'm just anything I've added to the LISTEN command doesnt seem to register at all.
I'm just saying I demoed the prefix feature with the same name and it worked without issue.  I may have to reconsider JARVIS as then would never be able to watch ironman...haha.  I should only have to change the COMPUTER phrase in ONE file correct?

Kalle,

Any luck with using Jarvis, or anything else, in place of computer to wake VC up out of standby mode?

Not sure what you are asking here, nor do I have any idea what problem VJ was having, or why.  Have you tried something specific that is not working for you?

TIPS: POST VC VERSION #. Explain what you want VC to do. Say what you've tried & what happened, or post a video demo. Attach VC log. Link to instructions followed.  Post your command (xml)
