Can TTS just play a wav file?
« on: November 14, 2014, 08:09:33 PM »
I know, I'm always crazy :)

My deal is I want to be able to send some wav files to the same audio endpoint that TTS is using (I move it between stereos kind of thing).  Since these files are pre-recorded, I don't want a payload converted to wav and then played.  I honestly searched first :)

Know what I mean?

Can anyone offer thoughts?

-SK

It is probably just me, but I have no idea what you mean.

TIPS: POST VC VERSION #. Explain what you want VC to do. Say what you've tried & what happened, or post a video demo. Attach VC log. Link to instructions followed.  Post your command (xml)

I have MM and XBMC playing to the windows default audio out.

I have TTS playing to a separate output.

I would like to play wav files to the same output as TTS, not the default audio out.

Better? :)

Yes better.  Sorry, but I think you can only play wav files to the default audio output device.  You can change the default output with VC but you can't play a wav to a non-default output with VC.

Can Vox change MM and XBMC audio outputs while those programs run?

Nevermind, I see it isnt that straightforward.  I will play around and see what I come up with.

XBMC Gotham: yes.  A bit tricky but very doable.

MediaMonkey: not really. I think you would need to use emulation to open menus etc.

I will look again to see if it is possible to play wavs to any output but I think this is not so easy in .Net or I would have done it.  Still it has been a couple years so I will check again.

I uploaded 2.1.2.3 today to the download page.

There is a new plugin called "audio" in it.  It probably still needs a little work but it should do the trick if you want to play an audio file to any output device without changing the windows default output.

Perhaps I will consolidate some other audio functions into this plugin later on.

@SK: Did you ever notice that I created this plugin that you asked for?

I did!  Sorry man, I thought I posted a reply gushing my happiness; I must have just started playing instead.  It's lets me move sound effects (playing wavs) around as I move the TTS voice around from room to room (via different audio outputs).

(okay, it's the startrek noises >.>  )
