Google Voice
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:59:50 AM »
I am not sure if there is already a way to accomplish this, but I was wondering if there was a way to use VC with google voice for SMS (send and receive) or to even dial a number.  If you are not familiar with google voice on the main page you can choose to send sms or call a number.  If there is already a way I would be very interested in learning how.

Thanks

please explain how google voice works and how you are using it, and how you envision it working with VoxCommando.  There are so many google things out there, google voice, google chat, google talk, google pc-to-phone etc.  it is ridiculous and it gets a bit confusing.

I have never used google voice, I tried going to the website but it seems like it only works in the U.S.

Google voice is basically a forever phone number, google gives you a phone number and you can send/receive SMS on the web page(also forwards to your phone) and it displays missed calls/received calls ect.  When on the page messages and voicemails appear just as emails would pop up.  you can also choose to send sms messages from the webpage.

I would like to see if you could get it to check and read your new messages and voicemails like it does for gmail and then also be able to tell VC to send "Joe" a text message "hi how are" and it would access joe from my address book and send him the text message.  I have enclosed the basic screen of what google voice looks like.

well, unfortunately I can't seem to sign up for it.  I have tried with 3 different browsers on 2 computers.  I can't find a place to make a call or send sms and if I try to get a phone number it gives me errors no matter what I enter.

maybe it is as simple as figuring out what the url is to place a call, but at the moment there is nothing I can do with it. sorry.

well thanks for the try, I dont know what the deal with it may be.  I have found information on how to use the program "stuff", it  makes no sence to me but mybe it will help you out if you are still interested in trying to get this to work, it would be a neat add on.

Thanks

I think it is blocking me because I am not in the U.S. but they don't bother tell me that, and instead I get "unknown error".  I read online somewhere that it only works in the U.S., not that I believe everything I read.

Anyway, if I can't test it, I won't even think about trying to develop something for it.  If you should discover that they have opened it up for Canada please let me know.  I also heard that they were allowing Google voice in Canada and that they decided to stop for some reason... in other words: $$$

They should change their slogan to "the only phone number you'll ever need, as long as you don't leave the USA"  >:D

haha, it works only when you have a US-IP adress. There is possible to get one with a proxy, but it is to complicated  :'(

yeah, I find working with proxies a real pain because it slows everything down so much.  At least, that is the case with the free ones that I have tried.  They are slow, if they even work at all.

By the way, I have seen today on "discovery channel" a report of the New Euro Fighter Jet, and courios, he has voice control for the weapons and main instruments. Haha, do you have sold licenses to aircraft manufacturers  :xmasgrin

I thought about that, but I would not want to be responsible for an accidental missile launch.  I think we will stick to games for now  :biglaugh

o ok, well I work in Iraq and use my google voice here so I figure that it would work everywhere, maybe you do have to be in the US or have a US ip address when you sign up but who knows.  Thanks for the feed back and if they ever do open it up where you can sign up for it Ill let you know if I hear anything, Just wish I knew more about programming so I could help out.  Thanks anyway.
