Robots
« on: March 13, 2014, 07:21:48 PM »
Just wondering if anybody here builds robots for fun (or otherwise)?

And if so, whether you've tried controlling/interacting with your robots in any interesting ways with VC.

... I have other questions, but no point in posting them yet.
TIPS: POST VC VERSION #. Explain what you want VC to do. Say what you've tried & what happened, or post a video demo. Attach VC log. Link to instructions followed.  Post your command (xml)

Not what you mean I know but I do have a roomba which as i remember can be controlled by a remote. Wonder could it controlled by vc via a tellstick or something similar?

I would love to try to control a Roomba with VC.

Their documentation for their serial command interface actually looks pretty good. http://www.robotappstore.com/files/KB/Roomba/Roomba_SCI_Spec_Manual.pdf

The lifespan of the Roomba as reported by friends of ours is one reason we haven't bothered with it so far. And who knows how our dog would react to a robot friend following him around 24/7 (my dream scenario!).  :biglaugh

Just happening upon this..

This suggests to me that controlling the roomba via vc may be entirely poossible

Right, that is what I linked to above.

It does seem pretty plausible that someone willing to buy their wifi device for Roomba (67.50 €/$100) could then get the Roomba and VC talking to each other.

Dunno how I missed I midded that in your post. How stupid of me.   :bonk

FYI Regarding lifespan, we've had ours now about 4 years and aside from a battery replacement its still going stong

€67 euro is a little spicy though

In fact if you have the remote control and infraRed emitter .. you can learn the remote control IR and send it it through IR device like the iTach .. to get roomba going with no extra cost
When Voice command gets tough, use hand gestures

I think it is a question of which model you have, and which functions can be activated by remote by default. I don't own one so I don't know, but presumably there would not be a market for an add on if it didn't add anything new.  Some units probably only have a start/stop, go home button, and not left, right, backup, speed etc.

I'm just guessing though!
