VC migration
« on: October 17, 2013, 02:27:05 AM »
Hi all. Ive been having an odd issue lately after I replaced my old VC machine with a new computer (finally). What I did was copy my old VC folder from the original machine over to the new computer and then launched it (ver 1.158) Launching it took forever (going into not responding mode) and once going it seemed fine however if it goes into standby mode and then you want to go into listen mode again it does this same process again.

After this I upgraded to ver 1.163 (Thanks James  ;D ) but still having the same issue.

I then installed a new copy into a new folder just to make sure there wasnt anything strange on my new pc or something but it all seems fine with just a fresh install.

So just before I rebuild everything again (good practice I guess  :biglaugh ) I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this Issue before with moving their folder to a new machine. I have a few ideas but not sure.

Other info:

Plugins - AudioEndpoint, TCP, UsbUIRT, TcpMIC, XJson, Xsql
Location -  same folder name and folder location on both machine.
OS - Win 7 x64 Pro on both
AVG anti virus on new pc and NOD on old I think

Activated on second machine now as the first PC has died :(

Thanks for any help

Make sure that VC has rights to the folder - Windows asks you if you start VC for the first time on the new computer.

Hi Kalle, thank you for the response. I had the window pop up that asked to you want to allow access and to that I said yes. Is the what you are talking about?

Yes, that is what I mean.
Can you post the VC logfile?

You say that it freezes when switching from standby to listen mode (very weird).  When this happens, how long does it freeze for?

Try this:

- Purge cache and then rebuild missing grammars.
- Go into options and check the languages are set to english.
- Go to the plugins tab and disable ALL plugins.

Restart VC.

Test it and if everything seems normal then start re-enabling the plugins and testing them one at a time.

If it still does not return to normal, then make sure the log is enabled, run VC until it freezes at least once, and then send us the log.

Hi James and Kalle. I feel a right twat now  :bonk Thanks for all your help. The problem was my xbmc plugin and it was looking for the local XBMC instance of my previous machine. As I never used it on that machine I completely forgot it was even on it and seeing as it died I could even switch it on to compare. But thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction!

Just for reference the delay was about 15 seconds or so each time you open VC or go into listen mode.

So if anyone else is getting a delay... Disable all plugins and work your way up  :biglaugh
