VC wont see my music, say whaaaaat?!
« on: October 22, 2010, 02:00:20 PM »
Okay so i was updating my music collection, then after the xbmc finished update i did genxml and would you know it it came up 0 for songs, i decided to add each album 1 by 1 and found out one of my linkin park albums was the problem, it seems the song files were labeled with characters for example "Cr@wl1ng.mp3" once i removed this album and cleanded the library genxml started seeing my songs again.  :bonk :bonk

glad you figured it out.  do you know if there was an @ symbol in the title as well, or just the filename?  Because genXML requests information through http web requests the @ sign would be likely to cause problems.  There could be other problem symbols as well.  I will look into it.

I changed one of my tracks to include a @ in the tite and the filename, but I could not recreate this error.  GenXML still worked fine.

How many symbols have you tried, cuz i just noticed there are 20 songs and theyre littered with symbols in the ID3 information, "Run A*way" "[Chali]" "My <Dsmbr" "PPr::Cut"

just whatever was in my library of nice cleanly tagged music (took forever), and the @ which I added for the test

My library contains at least these ones (maybe others):

'
&
!
#
*
(
)

I don't know for sure if I can request songs with these symbols in XBMC but I do know that GenXML works even though they are there.

Hello,
Love the program and I have it working with Media Monkey with no problems.  But XBMC is another matter.  I can launch XBMC but after that nothing.  When I attempt to use GenXML I get an error message unhandled exception has occurred in your application... The li start tag on line 2 does not match the end tag of html. Line 2 position 36.  I have read the dummies section and I think I have downloaded the correct file and set up XBMC and VoxCommando as instructed.  However there is some communication problem because I cannot scan any of my library in.  I appreciate your efforts and help.
Regards,

OK.  I'm not sure what the answer is so here are some questions to try to narrow it down

1 - what version of xbmc are you using... and are you sure.  I recommend you make sure you are using Dharma beta 2 or Dharma beta 3.

2 - are other simple xbmc commands like stop, play, up, down, etc. working?

3 - when you try to run GenXML is this error occurring for any and all types of data?  (i.e. artist, album, songs, tvshows, movies, genres etc.?)

let me know, and we'll try to go from there.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I found out that I had upgraded XBMC on my other computer not this one, so when I upgraded I was able to genxml my xbmc files.  However, when I am in XBMC nothing works and when I use a command like play, it launches media monkey.  I am a step closer, but not there yet.

are you using the voicecommands.xml file that was included in xbmc for dummies or are you trying to use the same configuration that you were using for mediamonkey?

or to put it another way... did you download the xbmc for dummies .zip file and try running from that folder?

I am making a little more progress.  Now I can launch xbmc and can use a few commands like scroll, play, etc.  However, when I ask for movie avatar,it returns alice in wonderland.  In fact it returns AIW for any movie I want to access unless I list the movies and scroll down to the one I want.

did you start with the complete folder from the zip file in the xbmc for dummies post?

did you manage to successfully run genXML on your xbmc movies?

please be specific about what command you are using, instead of saying "when I ask for movie avatar" because there are different ways of doing it and this doesn't tell me which you are using.

does VoxCommand show that it is recognizing the correct movie name?

I previously asked you a similar question that you never answered.  If you don't answer my question, I probably won't be able to help you.

Sorry, I don't mean to be uncooperative.  Did I start with the complete folder?  yes,

Did I successfully run genXML?  yes

I tried several commands including "play avatar"  "slelect avatar"  "play movie avatar" "avatar" but that may be the problem.  I will go over the list of commands tonight and try again.

Does VoxCommand show that it is recognizing the correct movie name?  It does show it recognizes Alice in Wonderland for every movie I try and it will navigate there.

It's OK.  I didn't think you were trying to be :P

maybe you can send me your xbmcmovies.xml file.  It sounds like it only has the one entry (the one for for Alice).

when you run genXML a number should appear next to each media type showing how many entries of that type are being found.  What # are you seeing next to the moves?

Here is my movie folder.  As you can see, it has all the movies in it.  I can browse movies and scroll.  But I cannot execute the command find movie without it going to alice in wonderland.  It seems as though it will only return the first movie on the list.  When I use genxml I return 111 movies.

there doesn't seem to be a problem with that file.

you say that vox always shows you as saying "alice".  Even when you say something else... what kind of confidence are you getting when you say something like find movie avatar?

I don't get it.

can you zip up your whole folder and upload it please?  Don't leave anything out.
