Ecobee3 - Plugin _ control temperature, settings etc
« on: July 13, 2015, 04:10:23 PM »
cool addition to VC would be the ability to control ecobee 3 thermostats. Ecobee3 thermostat uses sensors to detect occupancy in different rooms which maybe VC can leverage as detection and execute commands. see link http://shop.ecobee.com/products/ecobee-3

i checked out there developer site and they are using JSON for their thermostats and also provide API's for developers. see link https://www.ecobee.com/home/developer/api/documentation/v1/index.shtml

I am trying to understand how to send an http get command to detect my temperature and VC tell me, but i am really not that good at figuring this kind of things out. Ill keep cracking away at it but hopefully someone can check this out and see if it could bring some excitement to ecobee users.

thanks,

I guess no ecobee3 users on this forum huh  :o

I thought this would be a good addition based on using the occupancy sensors that ecobee has also

If you can interact with your thermostat by logging into a website, you might want to try a RoboB solution instead.

... Or you could explore the Nest commands that are posted on the forum and see if you can adapt them for the ecobee. They may be similar.

TIPS: POST VC VERSION #. Explain what you want VC to do. Say what you've tried & what happened, or post a video demo. Attach VC log. Link to instructions followed.  Post your command (xml)

https://www.ecobee.com/developers/

Developers need to own an ecobee product in order to register as developers. Nest allows developers to register and test using virtual products. That is why we were able to provide users with some Nest commands.

It is not possible to develop for products without access to them. The ecobee 3 costs hundreds of dollars.

If you own the product, you can register the product and sign up for your own developer account. Register an app in order to get an app key. If you then want to PM me all that info, including how to sign in to your developer's account, I will see if I can figure something out with it -- but I can't guarantee anything.
