Ducking
« on: April 05, 2014, 09:53:16 PM »
I am not sure how to control both media monkey and xbmc from the same VC setup. So I just made two folders. One for xbmc and one for media monkey. They I installed VC in each of the folders. I configured one to work with xbmc and one to work with media monkey. I have ducking working on media monkey. When I tilt my android phone media monkey goes into soft mute like it should. However when I tilt the phone while using the xbmc configuration I see soft mute in the history but xbmc does not actually soft mute.

Either you did not correctly assign the event to the appropriate command, or you did not set up VC to work properly with XBMC.  There is a tutorial video that shows you exactly what you need to do.

Also there are a number of ways to perform a soft mute.  Unless you can give us some way to know what you are actually doing, I'm not sure how we can help.

Did you ever read the forum rules?  There is a link in my signature which appears on every message I post.  There are some important guidelines and suggestions there on how to create a support request in an effective way.  This is a valuable skill that once learned, will help you to seek help more effectively on any forum.

Sure James. I used Kalle's "ducking" file that he has posted on the forum. I followed the tutorial you have on youtube actually several times when I was experimenting with the trial version of VC. What I done was configured VC for xbmc while watching your video. Then I put the ducking file in the edit tree of VC xbmc configuration just the same as I did for media monkey.

This thread is where I got it from. http://voxcommando.com/forum/index.php?topic=870.0

P.S. No I have not thoroughly read the forum rules. I will be sure to tonight though :) I have only scanned through them.

Sure James. I used Kalle's "ducking" file that he has posted on the forum.

Do you mean the "Ducking command for Android-VoxMic" command group posted here? http://voxcommando.com/forum/index.php?topic=870.0

If so, and if you are using XBMC Frodo or higher, then the problem is that Kalle's command group (posted in 2012) uses the XBMC.softmute action which does not work with Frodo.

You need to edit those commands to switch to the correct xJson actions instead. http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Plugin_XJson

I generally advise folks to be cautious when using older xml on the forum (and to pay attention to the dates things were posted).

As well, it's always a good idea to let us know exactly which commands you borrowed by sharing the link to the specific post. Kalle has actually posted different types of ducking commands over the years, so we can't know for sure which commands you mean.

TIPS: POST VC VERSION #. Explain what you want VC to do. Say what you've tried & what happened, or post a video demo. Attach VC log. Link to instructions followed.  Post your command (xml)

Thanks Naomi. Your idea on what is wrong has to be the issue. I must need to edit the command. I will spend the rest of the night trying to figure it out on my own before I ask for assistance here on the forum. Thanks again!

James & Naomi,

You two will be proud of me. I figured this one out on my own. Had to finish watching Kentucky play though but I am now able to mute and unmute xbmc when my phone is tilted. Now on to putting in some url's to launch.

Thanks again you two!

I am sure there are plenty of old posts with old XML that won't work in the newer versions.  It will be very difficult for you to find and fix them all.  Users will just need to be a big more careful about what they are doing.  People should not just copy and paste xml without looking at the thread in which they find it.  Even if the xml is good, there is often an explanation of other things that need to be done in order for the command to work.
