Hue- Edit lights error
« on: January 10, 2015, 02:42:58 PM »
I get an unhandled exception when clicking the edit lights in the hue plugin.  edit groups and edit scenes work fine.
picture and copy of the error attached.   Not sure if a vc issue or a pc issue.

vc 2.1.3.3
windows 7 64bit
system updated
java version 7.67 if it matters

Bummer.  It is probably the plugin but I don't get any error here.  We only have a starter set with the 3 lights that were included with the bridge in the set.

1 - What version of the hue plugin are you using?

2 - How many lights do you have attached to your bridge, and of what type(s)?

3 - What happens when you click "continue" on that error message?

I suspect the problem may be that you have a different type of light or something, but I'm not sure why the groups and scenes dialogs work normally for you.

What about GenXML?  Does it work normally?

1.  Not sure what you mean here.  I am using vc 2.1.3.3   Hue firmware is at 1.7.0.5
2.  I have 8 lights.  2 strips, 5 bulbs, and a bloom
3.  When i hit continue, it closes the error window and just takes me back to the plugin.

I cleared out the xml files as a test and recreated them no problem.

I tried a couple of versions of vc and same results.   The bloom was the last thing i added, maybe it is the cause. I'll test.

Honestly this is not a deal breaker for me, I stumbled on it the other night accidentally when i was playing around with scenes.

Check the plugins tab in VC's main window to find the version number of VC's Hue plugin. The Plugins tab in Options also has this information.

It may be a challenge to eliminate the Bloom from the equation once it's been registered to your bridge. (Probably requires more than simply unplugging it.) But it does sound like a likely culprit.

James will probably have to send you a new dll that will allow you to log properly what's happening so that he can try to accommodate the new hardware.

TIPS: POST VC VERSION #. Explain what you want VC to do. Say what you've tried & what happened, or post a video demo. Attach VC log. Link to instructions followed.  Post your command (xml)

I will add some extra logging and post a new hue plugin dll.  Then hopefully keithj69 can use it to create send us a log and we will see what we are doing wrong.

OK.  Please try replacing your Hue.dll with the attached.

It goes into YourVCFolder\plugins\Hue

Then right-click the dll file and choose properties and if necessary click "Unblock" at the bottom under security.  If you don't see the unblock button then it's fine.

The attached file is version 2.0.1.4 of the hue plugin.

Most users should not try to install this dll it is a temporary file to try to find an error!

Keithj69 please try this plugin with logging enabled, open your hue lights editor (I'm hoping it will open for you now except that some lights will not show the correct status) and then send us a log.

Thanks.

[Attachment removed. This is not for general download. Hue.dll in VC is up-to-date]

I'm sorry I have been knee deep in building out a nuc for xbmc and redoing my coming home sequence.  I love party mode starting when i walk in the door.
The version of the hue i have currently is 2.0.1.3.  Give me a few to do a before and after with logs and see if the dll works.
