Communication with VoxCommando but no processing?
« on: February 04, 2013, 08:29:35 PM »
I finally downloaded VoxWav Free and followed the instructions here:  http://voxwav.wikispaces.com/Installation

When I turn the mic on on my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus), I see the event in Vox get triggered (AV.Mic.On) and everything appears to be working properly.  I just always don't get a response in Vox.  Nothing is shown as even a failed command.   The waveform even shows up, but no response.  Any idea what it could be?

here's the relevant log I believe:

Playing with it more trying to troubleshoot...

  • I have my Kinect mic turned off so I only see commands from the phone.
  • I always run on standby mode.
  • Now it occasionally is showing commands, but it's awful confidence even on easy commands.  It's also really spotty, most of the time not showing anything
  • I've tried with BKG Exec both on and off.  Does that stand for "background execution meaning that it won't display anything anywhere?

EDIT: Restarted voxwav oh my phone, now when I press the cell tower button, I can see my two servers and select on.  Also, now I see my commands getting recognized on my phone there in red.  Great recognition.  My probably still remains though - nothing is sent to Vox on my PC

Hi fattybunter, try the following: open in VoxWav settings ->under Audio settings choose "mic input" and set the mic input to "MIC" and test it again (works with my Samsung Galaxy S2 perfect).
If I interpret your voxlog.txt right your phone mic is to loud (clip) and VoxCommando can't recognize your command.
What shows your history in VC?

If it looks like in this example, you must adjust your mic settings in VoxWav to a other input or hold your phone further away from your mouth:

Event&&AV.Mic.On
AV.Miv.On
TCPWav.Open
no sox processing
Event&&AV.Mic.Off
AV.Mic.Off
VC.NotRecognized
Wav.Reco.Complete

I hope it helps
Kalle

By the way - the "BKG Exec" option allows you to run VoxWav in background and works together with the "tilt ON". So if you toggle to a other app on your phone, VoxWav run in background and can recognized your commands if you tilt your phone.

You should also try to reduce the volume.

1 - hold the phone further from your mouth
2 - in TCP mic settings, reduce volume to 50%

If it still does not work, please send a COMPLETE log and an image of the waveform.

Still trying to figure out what my issues are and I think I've pinpointed another anomoly.  With some commands, it takes up to 10 seconds from when I stop recording in VoxWav to when I get a registered command.

Attached is a log file.  The very last command I issued showed up as 85.5% confident and launched the command, yet in the log file it shows an error with no command recognized (I clipped some read lines).  Not positive which wave file is associated with it, but I'll do a better investigation right now.

Ok I've just changed my MIC input to VOICE RECOGNITION and got a massive improvement in both speed and accuracy

Nice to hear that it works. You can also try a lower samplerate to have more speed.

Maybe... but lower quality could also cause the speech engine to take longer to process it!

On both the androids we have here, running on a wireless g network, VC responds almost instantly, as soon as I lift me finger off the speak button.  So unless your network is really slow, any delays probably indicate a problem with quality, or some other technical issue/error.

I'll change the sample rate today and see how that changes things.  It's working very well though now since that MIC change to VOICE RECOGNITION.

Thanks for the help once again guys.  Very much appreciated.

What device and OS version are you using?

It varies widely from one device to another (one of the difficulties with Android), and even between different versions of Android on the same device, but on my two devices I have found that "default", "Mic" and "Voice_Recognition" all yield pretty much the same results.

I have updated the Wiki a bit.  Please let me know if you think there is anything important that needs to be changed.

Thanks.

Just a slight difference I notice that confused me initially.  In your pictures and explanation in the installation guide on the wiki, you say 'Click "Hello"', but in my VoxWav app there's no word "Hello" - only the radio tower picture.

Also - what exactly does "OSD messages from VoxCommando will be ignored" mean?  Is Vox sending commands back to VoxWav to see?  It looks like that's already happening even with OSD unchecked.

Thanks.

Yeah, again, Android is different on every device.  On my tablet I see the word "hello" next to the icon, but on other devices it may decide not to show the text.  I changed the wiki working a bit on that one.  I hope it's more clear now.

On the VoxWav settings / Application settings page, "OSD messages from VoxCommando will be ignored" means pretty much literally what it sounds like. No, it is not the same as commands, or alternates which will always be displayed on VoxWav.  Specifically, this setting is talking about OSD messages sent by VoxCommando using the action: "OSD.ShowText".  The only reason I put that option in there is in case someone ran into a problem with the messages being too big for their screen, or if it interfered with the display of alternates etc.
