Just realised I pretty much wrote the same thing a couple of weeks ago!  I'm half asleep!

And it would seem it was "Kate" not Jane.

i recently had contact with a sales representative from neospeech about voices. they sent me a few to test. right now i'm using julie, and i have to say she's awesome. any idea what number i can look forward to pay for one of their licenses? because... i really.. REALLY like it =)

ninja edit: of course i will basically know exactly what it costs in like.. 2 weeks when the test license expires, but since some ppl already baught their license, maybe i could get a hint.

It is really a shame that they still charge so much per voice for TTS on desktop systems.  They are practically *giving them away* for mobile devices, but I guess with a desktop they think you might be using it commercially.  Anyway it sucks, because it is really nice to have a decent TTS voice, but the current prices are really not fair, IMO.

It would be nice if one could get a "TTS-Light" version that only allowed a certain number of words / day or something along those lines.

Yes that is true  >:D
You can get a fantastic tts voice for a android system for only 5 bugsbucks, but for windows it is a shame  ::yikes

I wish I could pay for things with bugs.  I would be rich!

I think you mean bucks.

You'll master English, one word at a time...  ;)

I use both Brian and Kate and setup a command to switch between them and a few other voices I have.

Me: May please speak with ...Jarvis

VC: Sure just a moment while I get him.

Invoke SelectTTS voice by number (or you can use by name) to select Brian

VC: Hello, this is. Jarvis, how may I help you?

When I get tired of talking to one I just ask to speak to another. Works great and gives a little variety. My computer has multiple personalities.  ;)

This is also useful if you need to switch between languages.  Please note that you should try to always use voice names when doing this instead of numbers because the numbers can change.  If you add or remove voices, or even if you change the default windows TTS voice, then the index number for each voice may be modified and you would need to update your commands.

I am using Bridget as well (hmmm... that sounds rude). I followed a link here on the forum to a reseller and paid US$19.99. Considering what we pay for VoxCommando, it did seem a little steeep for just a voice. But I heard it in Jitterjames' utube video and was so impressed with how natural it sounded that I had to have her (uh...).

While it wouldn't be very practical as an all-around voice, the original 1980s Battlestar Galactica Cylon voice answering "By Your Command" to a "Start Listening" command would be pretty interesting... Especially if you had an unsuspecting guest over.
