Installing Additional TTS Engine?
« on: April 23, 2013, 10:55:13 PM »
Hello,

Is there a way to install additional TTS voices and make them work for VoxCommando?
After intalling VoxCommando the only TTS Voice i see under Options is "Microsoft Anna - English (United States).
I would like to use UK english, after googling for a bit i was directed to this link.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27224

However downloading and installing these does not seem to work, meaning i still cannot see the new language tts packs in the vox commando options dropdown list. Although i have changed the Speech language to en-GB, but i was wondering if i can use additional speech language such as Indian, as the girl friend is an Indian.

Please guide me to the right link and procedure.

Hi

Here is a link http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/RealSpeak-Solo-Direct-Voices/RealSpeak-Solo-Direct-Downloads.asp

I can't say for sure they will work, no harm trying i guess.

Thanks for stopping by and for your reply. I tried installing one of the language package... and sadly it still does not show up in voxcommando options.

What you are looking for are sapi 5.3 tts engines.  Free ones are hard to find.  A free Hindi one will probably be even harder to find.  You can keep an eye on this...

AT&T, Loquendo, NeoSpeech etc. all work well with VoxCommando.

http://www.neospeech.com/

You can also use the VoxCommando Bing plugin to do TTS in a variety of different languages, but it requires an internet connection (every time you do TTS it will upload the text to the Bing server and then download the audio), and it is probably only a matter of time before this free service is shut down.
