VLC stops working when VoxCommando is turned on
« on: January 24, 2013, 12:02:57 PM »
Hi,

I watch Tv using XBMC. I do this by a VLC stream from my WinTV-card. Everything works fine. Except when I turn on VoxCommando. When I have VoxCommando turned on and open this stream, VLC will not open it, and will not stream from my WinTV-card. I can open movies in VLC that works just fine.

Also, as I start a VLC stream trough "capture device" while VoxCommando is running I can not close VLC, I need to close it through the task manager. This only happens if I start VLC stream when Voxcommand open

If I quit VoxCommand, everything turns back to normally. And I can watch TV again.

connections:
TV Video (yellow cable to Wintv Card)
TV Sound (Sound In port)

I do not know if VoxCommando messes with the input of the WinTV-Card or with VLC.
I don't know how to check that,

Does anybody has the same problem or knows a fix?

Thanks

Hi Zanad, Welcome to the group :D

I have no idea what is causing this.  The fact that movies work and not TV is interesting.  In other words, it works fine playing a file from disk, but not when streaming video to VLC from "a device"?

Maybe it is a good idea to wait until you've got the latest version of VC (VoxCommando) with full support for Frodo (coming soon) and then we can try to troubleshoot this together.

Because I don't use VLC in this way I will probably need to use screen sharing on your system so we can look at it together.  If you are up for that I am happy to help, but let's wait until next week, OK?  I do use VLC to stream video from my IP camera while using VC with no issues, but my camera is not streaming sound so it could be an audio related issue.

I found out it has something to do with software that triggers the "microphone" or "line in" connections. Then VLC screws up.
It has nothing to do with VoxCommando per se. It's a VLC bug. Guess I have to go there for help.

Thanks anyway,

If you have an android device you can try using VoxWav free, which turns your android into a wifi microphone for VC.  Since it does not actually use a windows microphone of any kind, it should help avoid your VLC issue.

Otherwise, I bet there is another workaround that we could come up with, but I need to better understand what is actually happening before I can suggest anything.
