This has happened to me more than once. First with my expensive bluetooth mouse, and recently with the button on my laptop trackpad.
You single click, but often, the device will malfunction and double click. ANNOYING. Potentially disastrous even.
The solution is simple. Monitor the speed of double clicks. If they occur faster than humanly possible (usually you can't click twice in under 90 milliseconds) then block the second click.

note that there is a click speed setting in windows but it does not fix the problem I am talking about. That settings is for the other end of the spectrum, for people that double click really slowly.
