Laptop Bluetooth proximity
« on: January 08, 2015, 07:29:58 PM »
My laptop has Bluetooth and is in my family room so instead of getting an ibeacon, is there any program that I can get proximity with my phone also work with voxcommando so when I walk in the room it will turn on the light and off when I out of the room?

Thanks.

I don't know about this.  Maybe someone else has an idea.

I believe you can use Tasker on Android to trigger events based on wifi and bluetooth connection events, but I don't think this will work for proximity.

O I don't have android.

I just thought its kind of cool if it can go on and off by itself and only detected by me as well.

if your laptop is MAC .. you can add BLE BT4.0 dongle at less than 5$ on ebay if it is old... if new mac you can turn it into BLE beacon with some tweaking

if your laptop is windows based, try http://btprox.sourceforge.net/

it will unlock the laptop as well ... then you have 2 choices ...
  • turn on lights automatically using the program to run vc.exe with eventtrigger & paylaod (refer to wiki) but that will not turn of lights... you will have to do it manually
  • call vc.exe with vc.exe with eventtrigger & payload using windows task scheduler, on based on unlock, and another when laptop lock ... , this will work if you unlock/lock your laptop manually as well

the thing I hate about BT between phone and PC is the phone will default to answer on PC !!!

But when the laptop locks, VC will stop working and I can't issue any command.  I have another mic in the kitchen...

as far as I Know locking the PC do not stop VC ... there was a discussion about this somewhere in the forum look for headless PC ... However, logging off will stop VC

You can't use VoxCommando when your PC is locked.
