Kodi (XBMC) Frodo / Gotham / Isengard / Jarvis / Broken Script
« on: July 07, 2014, 11:04:18 PM »
I used the repository correctly but it appears as if script is broken.  It does not allow me to update nor configure.  How do I fix this? Thanks.

Yes, I use also Guile3D and you can control the A.I. with VoxCommando (the most things). We have in VC2.0 also a "Talking head" plugin.

He is a example video with the Guild3D (not the best, but I will record a new video next time)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXcOznuUDmY

Interesting.  Its nice to see a fellow Guile 3D user on here.  However I have a question, what exactly is the point of running both programs at the same time?  It appears as if V.C. is sufficient enough to do everything you did in the video all by itself.  Just wondering.  Plus, I am pretty knowledgeable on how to program Guile 3D (you would know from the forums), which method did you use for this?  I ask cause I am curious.  If I knew, then I would have a better understanding as to why you used both V.C. and Guile 3D at the same time.  Was it simply for the looks?

Tips for better speech accuracy / Re: Dragon Naturally Speaking
« on: July 07, 2014, 03:36:53 PM »
I completely disagree.  Dragon offers a better language model so it is certainly better for dictation, but I have done side by side tests and the raw accuracy of the engine was not noticeably different from what we are using now.  For all our commands other than dictation there are many other factors which are much more significant.  With a decent microphone and a correctly designed command structure I get very close to 100% accuracy.  How can we possibly improve that drastically?  If we improve from 99.5% to 99.7% is that drastically better?

Anyway, as Nime5ter points out, it isn't going to happen, but my point is that even if it were a realistic option, I don't believe it would be noticeably better, so people should not feel that they are somehow missing out.  If dictation is what you are after then go buy Dragon, but that is not what VoxCommando is all about.

I guess I will have to let go of my biased against MS speech rec and give it a legitimate chance.  I have always used studio quality microphones so I dont usually experience bad dictation with DNS.  I had no idea the sdk cost so much, wow.  However at the end of the day it just boils down to the program working like it should, not who made the speech rec engine.

Other Plugins / Re: X10 Plugin

Hi Dominique and welcome to VC forum. Maybe this will help you to get started with X10 stuff  ;)

http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Plugin_X10

I did see that thank you.  However it does not go into detail about how to get the plugin to detect the devices.  I saw that you need a SDK for ActiveHome however, didnt ActiveHome go under?

I guess i should have elaborated more on what I want to accomplish.  I want to use two X10 IPCameras that will show up on XBMC when motion is detected.

"Open air" and "whole home" microphones / Re: Kinect As Microphone
« on: July 07, 2014, 07:55:32 AM »
Here is a summary from our Wiki page about the Kinect which you can find here:

http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Microphones

Microsoft Kinect:
We had high hopes for the Kinect as a microphone for speech recognition but so far it has fallen short of expectations. We have tested this microphone with speech recognition in Windows and the results were very disappointing. Some users have reported good results with it in relatively quiet environments, but for the price we don't recommend it unless you already have one lying around. It is possible that a more mature SDK will yield better results but it's not likely.

That is incredibly surprising to hear.  I use it with Dragon Naturally Speaking and it is flawless.  I do have one and will try but in the end it may be the speech recognition engine difference that ultimately makes the experience good or not.  For those who do not own a 1st gen Kinect, they can be purchased for like $30 or less.

"Open air" and "whole home" microphones / Kinect As Microphone
« on: July 07, 2014, 07:29:57 AM »
There is a guy who specializes in home automation using a M.S. Kinect.  His software is called CastleOS.  This is not a promotion of CastleOS no.  This is a visual on how using a Kinect for speech recognition can improve by using the Kinect as a microphone.  In this particular video, he is able to give commands from 25 feet away!  Using this with V.C. would ensure that you do not need a bluetooth, not a cheap microphone.  The Kinect has a microphone array of 4 built-in mics so it is excellent for speech recognition!  The great thing is, now that the Xbox 360 has been surpassed by the Xbox One, the old first generation Kinects are dirt cheap!

Here is the video I speak of.

Here is a diagram of the Kinect and the microphone array inside.

Integration Ideas / Integration With IFTTT
« on: July 07, 2014, 07:21:26 AM »
I use IFTTT for much of my home automation simply because it is easy to use.  Granted it may be a long while for an official VoxCommando IFTTT integration but that does not mean the service cannot be used.  For example, I have it where if I send an email with a specific tag in the subject line, it will turn on or off devices in my home.

Example:
If I send an email to trigger@ifttt.com with a tag in the subject #LampOn, it will turn on the lamp.  Same with the kitchen, hallway, and a few other devices in my home.  The variable is the subject tag.  (NOTE: IFTTT has it setup where only the email address associated with your IFTTT account can trigger the devices.  They make it that way so 3rd party users cannot manipulate your devices)

So if I setup my personal email and set it up to where V.C. will send the email with the specific trigger, it can toggle device such as the lamp or kitchen lights etc.

I have multiple uses for this.  Do any of you?

Other Plugins / X10 Plugin
« on: July 07, 2014, 07:14:39 AM »
I dont really use X10 anymore.  However I have a bunch of X10 equipment lying around unused.  I was wondering if anyone had any success using the X10 plugin?  I would try, however I do not know how to use the plugin and get my X10 device detected by the program.

I think doing the same thing as the video above is do-able with V.C.

I would have to agree that using D.N.S. engine instead of the Microsoft Speech Recognition engine would improve dictation and recognition drastically.

Hey everyone, my name is Dominique Garcia.  I am an internationally known radio personality and journalist.  I came across VoxCommando when I was looking for a way to integrate my artificial intelligent virtual assistant Denise with XBMC.  As much as I wanted my program to perform everything, I simply acknowledged that V.C. is much more simple.  I could have accomplished it, yet like I said, V.C. is much easier to work with.

I am a forum moderator for the A.I. software I speak of, out of respect for this forum I will not post a link.  However I have made enormous contributions on the program and getting the program to perform all kinds of task that the creator never even dreamed of.  Every time I do something innovative with it, I always make YouTube tutorials to show the other forum members.  If you want to see a few, you can see them here....

https://www.youtube.com/user/DeniseTutorials

Well it seems as if I am now apart of this community despite owning the full version of the program as of this moment.  If and when I get the software, i will make some videos.
