Ah...Now I figured it out.  I was waiting for a full restart when instead it just does a quick restart.  Since the "changing profile and restarting" message stayed in the input box and it stayed in the not listening mode I thought it was hanging waiting for a full restart.  Never mind it works just fine

When I run VC.SetProfile VC attempts to restart but hangs everytime.  Bug? Running 2.1.4.2

I am not having problems with Voxcommando controlling Win 8.1.  I believe that's all this plugin for the TCP/IP Controller does.  So sending pause play etc. works fine.

It's the popups within Media Center to show what commands are being passed that doesn't work in Win 8.1 x64.

That makes sense.

I do want to have a few actions available to him.  I am going to set it up so that it suggests 3 or 4 shows to him and then he can respond with one of the show names.  He is a pretty smart kid hopefully we can figure it out together.

I will have the command trigger an autohotkey script that I have written which will execute the most recently recorded version of the show he is interested in.

jitterjames per your suggestion I think I will have it also temporally disable non relevant groups.

I do wish there was some way to do sound recognition and not just voice recognition.  That would be a supper cool feature.  It would be cool to record commands and have it recognized based on the recording.  If I had this I would also set it up so that when my home phone rang VC would take action.  Or if the doorbell rang pull up the front door cam etc.  Sound recognition would be cool.  Just thinking out loud.

General Discussion / Training VC to recognize a command from a 3 year old?

How I am using VC:

I setup a button on my 9 button Keypad Linc (Smarthome Insteon Lightswitch Scene Controller) to control Voxcommando.  I set it up in my kitchen so I can tap it and VC goes in listen mode and the LED lights up on the light switch to let me know it's listening.  This way I have a visual indication when my AV Receiver is off.  Of course I can also turn the switch off or let it time out and VC goes to ignore and LED goes off.  Pretty handy

My next project is to set it up so that when my 3 year old walks down stairs in the morning:
The Main Room camera detects motion > Blue Iris (Cam Software) sends event to VC > VC turns on TV etc and welcomes my 3 year old and asks him what he wants to watch.  He can then start his favorite show, Transformers of course. 

Question on this: any way to train a single Action in VC to recognize my toddlers voice?  There is no way he could go through a whole windows speech training session on his own.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  This is all very helpful.  My desire is to use 2 mic's because there are times when I would like to be able to make handsfree voice commands without picking up the amulet remote.

Idea:

Could I setup up an event so that when the amulet device is lifted input changes and amulet is active.  When amulet is in rest position switch back to MXL.  Would this work or be to slow and annoying when I go to use the amulet?

Also anyone tried using 2 amulet's on 1 receiver?

I store my Windows Media Center tucked away in my basement and have HDMI run to several points in my home.  I currently use a Harmony Remote in my main room and a Harmony remote in my bedroom.  I blast the IR over CAT 6 down to the basement to control the devices.  I am thinking of swapping out the Harmony's with Amulet's because the Harmony's are slow and I would like to have the built in Mic too.

I am thinking of purchasing the amulet oem remote.  I already have a MXL AC404 USB Conference Microphone.  Will I be able to use both devices?  How does the amulet remote work?  Does it act like a standard Mic input in recording prefs?  Will I have to use that crazy tool (virtual mixer thing) to set two mic inputs as default devices in Win preferences?

Yeah it must not work with win 8.1 64 bit anyway because I have not had success.

How can I get OSD or MCE Popups to work with Voxcommando and Windows 8.1?  I have the box checked but nothing is coming up when I am in Media Center.  I think at one time I was able to see alternates but now that doesn't work either.  I tried checking unchecking the options and restarting the app.
