This has been discussed quite a bit already on the forum.  All IR requires line of sight, except that sometimes it can bounce off objects if the signal is strong enough.

The UUIRT has a blaster on the front (built in) and extra ports on the back that you can attach a cable to for small short range emitters that you can run directly to the device.

The iTach also has multiple ports and you can attach short range emitters, or blasters to them.

Thanks.

I read that the UIRT has a good range but just want to confirm from someone that owns one (if possible right under the tv since my remote works too). I prefer not to have extra wires laying around.  So it's between the UIRT or the more expensive iTach.
