Home automation
« on: August 14, 2010, 10:32:27 PM »
Just wondering how I could incorporate z-wave lighting with voxcommando.  I have looked at eventghost but it does not seem to support z-wave control.  Do you know of anything else?

Regards

Wireless lighting and appliance control.  So you can dim your lights close curtains etc when you play a movie, all automatically hopefully  :-\
Heres a link http://www.z-wave.com/modules/ZwaveStart/
Makes it very easy to setup home automation with zwave

I am not too familiar with z-wave.  Is it compatible with x10?

Do you know if there exists a command line tool for z-wave?  If so you could use the launch function with parameters in VoxCommando.

Of course you would need the hardware to send signals from your computer to the Z-wave system.  Do you already have something that does this?

edit: I found this

http://www.controlthink.com/zwavesdk.htm

but it's not clear where to buy or how much it would cost.  Clicking "buy now" does not seem to lead anywhere useful.  It does not look like z-wave plays very well with others yet... but I have only done a quick web search.  Let me know if you find anything else useful, but unless there is already a software solution like a command line tool I would need to have the hardware and some kind of sdk in order to develop something.

Hi again,

Programs like homeseer, mcontrol and linuxmce all support z-wave.  It is far more advanced then x10, a10 etc.
Smarthome international and Australia sell it here are some links

http://www.smarthome.com/_/ProductResults.aspx?Ntt=z-wave
http://www.smarthome.com.au/zseries/z-wave.php#utm_source=zwaveoz&utm_medium=banner&utm_content=rhs&utm_campaign=inoz

there is also a device I am looking at getting which controls zwave and is able to accept command through upnp.
You can get one for only $99 US if you develop a plugin for it.  This product is really the best option because it controls your home automation without your computer being turned on.  But when you htpc is on it could send commands to it.

Eventghost have mentioned that they may add a z-wave plugin but not as yet.
Anyway, food for thought.
