Bug Reports / Strange problems in 0.874 and 0.875
« on: February 26, 2011, 11:24:36 PM »
Since upgrading to 0.874, I have lost the ability to send commnds to XBMC (get a "can't connect" message) and the speechon/speechoff sounds no longer play when VC is turned to "on" or "standby".  I didn't find any errors until I checked on my XBMC port / password settings (all were correct) and I attempted to save my options.   Every time I try to save and close my options I get an 'unhandled exception' - Input string was not in a correct format error.  Same thing happens in 0.875.

Details below

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

General Discussion / Voice Recognition on 30 Rock
« on: February 05, 2011, 01:18:05 PM »
http://www.nbc.com/30-rock/video/que-sorpresa/1283711

Anybody see this?  Start the video at the 12:00 minute mark.  Jack hasn't set up any listen phrases or prefixes apparently....   ;D

  I have vox commando set to default into standby mode.  It had a false positive on my listen phrase ("chuck norris") then a false positive command.  I don't use prefixes, just an idle timeout that moves it back to standby.  I've also removed one word syllable phrases commands, that seems to help with the false positives.

Yep, it was about 70 with shipping from Amazon.

What is a good microphone for speech recognition? / MXL AC-404 USB mic
« on: January 27, 2011, 02:08:10 AM »
  I recently bought the MXL AC404 USB conference microphone.  It is really incredible. I can speak *very softly* from 25 feet away (as far as I could get) and it picks up with ~94 percent accuracy my commands (quiet room of course).  If I have music on, I need to speak at normal volume.  I was in my kitchen about 20 feet away, behind a wall, with the sink on and it still accurately accepted commands.  I have the mic on the entertainment center behind my tv, which is probably not the best spot, but it still works great.
  My current setup makes for a good mix of remote and voice commands.  Sometimes it's easier to navigate with a remote, sometimes with voice commands.   For example, I have a USB uirt, which can send IR to all of my devices.  So I can turn on components (tv, stereo) with voice commands from virtually anywhere.  I can select different tv inputs and it jumps right there.  I give voice commands to get to where I want within an application and then use the remote if I want to navigate or browse items.
   In addition to voice commands for listen/ignore phrases, I have the red, yellow, and green buttons on my harmony remote set to stop, standby, and on modes in VC.  I use the blue button to mute and listen, for when I have music turned way up.
  The only bad experience is that it has started listening while i was watching a movie a couple times (accidentally 'heard' my listen phrase).  But I think that is pretty inevitable with a whole room mic and a very loud movie.  Now, when I start watching a movie I just press the red 'listening off' button on my remote.  But I might setup a way to have vox or eventghost detect movie playback to automate this step.  For some reason, watching live tv in WMC disables VC, which is nice.  But becomes 'aware' at the WMC main menu so I can command it to 'go back to XBMC'.
   If you are looking for a mic that can pick up voice commands from anywhere in a large room, this is the one.  But understand the limitations of a very powerful mic (it hears everything).  You just need to get creative with eventghost and the groups and commands in VC, but overall I'm still very impressed.

Feature Requests / Re: Partial mute time
« on: January 23, 2011, 03:00:50 PM »
I have been able to get this to work by using event ghost.  However, with the commands I need to send with my listen phrase (enable and disable groups with an eg broadcast) it doesn't set the idle timer.  I am forced to send back a standby broadcast from EG.  That can be a problem if I am giving multiple commands, it will only listen for 7 seconds from the initial listen phrase regardless of the true idle time.

9
It's now working, I had to fully restart both EG and VC to get it.  Thanks!

How do you get VC to respond to a broadcast from EventGhost?  For example, I would like a remote button that turns VC to standby mode.

Feature Requests / Partial mute time
« on: January 18, 2011, 11:47:35 PM »
I'm not sure if this is already a feature or not, but I would like to have temporary partial mute when giving commands.  I recently ordered the mxl USB conference mic, and I anticipate some issues with too much audio input from the speakers when playing music.  I consider music selection and browsing to be one of the many great uses for VC, and want the experience to work well.  I already have mine set to partially disable the mic when at idle for 10 seconds.  I'd like the volume to be partially muted after I turn back on the mic (using my listen phrase) for that ~5-10 seconds.
     Of course, this would be an issue when selecting a song to play.  So, in addition, also having the ability for VC to automatically partially unmute once a 'play' action is taken would be nice.   This all may be possible with parameters, but I don't know how to define time settings, for example, partially mute for 10 seconds.

XBMC / Re: TV on XBMC

Yep, I'm sure its something on my end.  I'll give the script run a try.  Thanks!

I was able to download the latest version, but the WOL command didn't work for me.  My script from XBMC still works however, so I think I've given it the correct MAC address.

I wasn't aware it had WOL, on the main page it says coming soon.  But, I'll check it out- thanks!

Can you post the parameter to call a script in XBMC?  I have the WOL (Wake on LAN) add-on in XBMC for my network storage that I would like to run from voice command.  Really great software BTW!
