I believe the majority of users run VC on 64 bit Windows.  I recommend Win7 x64.

There is no discussion on the forum because there are no known issues caused by a 64 bit OS.

However, for VC there is not really any advantage to having a 64 bit system and in your case if you want to save memory I suggest you stick with a 32 bit OS.

I use Windows 8.1 64 bit on a mini desktop with 2GB RAM. No issues till now, but I'm using it for a few weeks now anyway.

Is windows 64bit is more demanding in memory?
The reason I want to switch is exactly to break the 3GB limit with windows 32bit ... Then I can upgrade the ram

Yes it is. If you have 6 or more gigs of ram then it is worth it.

I thought you were running in a virtual machine on a Mac with limited resources.

It also takes more hard drive space.

@james, thanks for The links ... They confirmed what I know ...
In my case the only catch, is I will have to switch virtual serial port software as the 64bit version is not free due to licensing the driver ...

Thanks guys for all the feedback now I know what I need to make the decision ....

P.S. My machine has 2.5GB RAM (that I can boost to 4GB, from old laptop)
SSD Drive, that makes memory paging not a big slow down ...
It is dedicated to VC, KODI, Insteon software, Hopefully with mem boost, it will be able to handle iSpy to give VC some eyes :)

I would start by just putting the new RAM in and leaving the operating system as it is.

Then again a fresh OS is always nice.  :)
