WAY Off Topic / Paul's new YouTube channel
« on: November 16, 2016, 07:51:25 PM »
Hi all,

Hope you're all well. It's been too long. I've had a rubbish 6 months working at a dreadful company that sapped the life out of me,  but I am now free of that nightmare and so hopefully will be returning soon to do some more home automation videos.

I'm the mean time I've started a comedy channel for a bit of fun.

Check it out if you've got a bit of time to kill :)

Hello boys and girls!

I was just playing with my new phone and thought I'd look through the widgets and was surprised to see a voxwav widget!

It doesn't seem to do anything though. It looked like it might add some buttons to my home screen for commonly used phrases so I could use my phone as a remote for Vox. This would be really useful in my bedroom for when Neesha is asleep and I need to get Alexander to perform a command like turn the lights off,  or start the waterfall. I always used Eventghost to do this previously but this would be a much better option.

Sadly I can tick the buttons but it doesn't add them to the home screen when I press back and I can't see any menu to save them. I've looked around the forum and the instructions for voxwav but can't see any mention of such a widget.

Is it not compatible with the galaxy S5 or is the widget not even supposed to be there?

H guys,

Firstly I wanted to apologise to Kalle for taking so long to set this up!  I tried to do a video for my channel today but my battery ran out on the camera :P  I shall try again later when it's charged and will link the video here.

It works amazingly and looks beautiful behind my sofa, I can't thank you enough buddy, it's transformed the living room.

I had a question about whether there was a quick way to integrate the Hue plugin so that when creating, storing and recalling the colours on the LED strip vox would also do the same for Hue?

I'm presuming they're too separate for this to be possible but I thought I'd ask before I start manually syncing up the two colour libraries.

Thanks,

-P

Hi all,

God knows what's happened but all of a sudden I can't use the command "browse TV show Family guy" for example.

The log shows: XJson.Raw:GUI.ActivateWindow&&"window":"video"."paramaters": ["videodb://2/2/38"] and displays no error but Kodi just launches a blank window.

The top right corner of says "Videos - 38".  38 is the reference in the payload for Family guy but here are no shows.  I've made sure Show watched is ticked but still nothing.

All other commands are working fine.  if I say "Play a random episode of family guy" then it loads just fine.

Any idea what I've done wrong??

Thanks,

-P

WAY Off Topic / Paul's new house!
« on: May 11, 2015, 07:16:57 PM »
Hello all,

Just thought I'd share the space that I will eventually be completely automating considering I've been talking about getting a house pretty much since we met!

Not a lot of photos but I just took a look round my Den as I sat supping some whisky and thought I would share just a few of the music room and the Boudoir :)

Still loads to do, the walls are a bit bare and I've spent this evening working on some art work in photoshop.  I'll attach that too...

Hope to have some slightly more exciting video up on my channel soon but need to get some Vox commando action in every room first ;)

Thanks,

-P

Integration Ideas / Broadlink pro with RF
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:12:23 PM »
Anyone seen these yet?  Anyone had a play with them?...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Broadlink-RM-Pro-Intelligent-Automation-Black/dp/B00LWO7GM8

I've literally just received mine but haven't taken it out the box yet.  Has anyone looked at whether it could be controlled by Vox?  It claims it can control IR and RF and can do  433MHz & 315 Mhz frequencies!

It's ridiculously cheap so seems like a really good thing for the community if we could get Vox working with it.  I have no idea what protocol it uses

What do you guys reckon?

There are a couple documents and SDK's here but totally beyond my comprehension...

Feature Requests / Tenvis IP camera
« on: March 02, 2015, 12:26:36 PM »
Hey guys,

Not sure if this is technically a feature request as I imagine there is already a way to do this. (Although a Tenvis plugin would be awesome.)

Sooooo... I have a Tenvis IP camera which has can be turned on and off and set to focus on a particular stored location amongst other things. You can do this by visiting it's IP with a browser, logging in and using one of the several methods therein activex mode, server push mode, and VLC plugin mode.

I'm interested in controlling most of those aspects using vox but mostly the ability to turn motion detection on and off (the camera has built in functionality to email you images without the PC being turned on) and it does so whenever it detects movement.

Question is, has anyone used Vox to do any of the above? I can foresee it being really useful to extend my alarm system project.

It's one of these:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00H759YXA/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_7?colid=11KM16IONPSKC&coliid=I2YFMCJ2EBTT14&vs=1

You know what I'm like, I'm pretty good at manipulating stuff but pretty shoddy when it comes to anything else. Is there something in vox that can tap in to one of these "modes"? I'm guessing it's probably something straight forward but any advice would be appreciated.  I can think of all sorts of cool things I could do with it with some help from one of you fine gents / ladies.

Thanks,

-P

General Discussion / My home alarm system catches it's first burglar!!
« on: February 08, 2015, 07:31:03 PM »
James, you had a massive hand in getting this working so I have you to thank for Neesha's wedding dress fund still being in our possession!  You can't see off camera, but there is basically nothing on the shelf he is reaching for except for the wedding fund jar labelled "wedding fund".

Thought I'd share this in case anyone was thinking about setting it up but hadn't got round to it.  Do it now!  It could save you serious money!

Thanks,

VoxCommando Basics and Core Features / switching mic input
« on: August 07, 2014, 08:08:25 PM »
I'm surprised I can't find a topic on this one, although I might be being dumb (almost certainly).

I want to create a command to switch Mic inputs so I can say "Listen to my USB mic", or "listen to my headset mic"

I've found out how to switch sound cards for output, but not input.

Is this doable?

Thanks as always.

Feature Requests / Radiosure plugin
« on: December 01, 2013, 12:02:47 PM »
Oi oi,

I've been using Radiosure for listening to internet radio for a while, it's nice and loads up over the top of XBMC nicely and has some nice skins to help suit your existing media players.

There is an eventghost plugin for it that I have had some use out of for switching to favourite stations.

So why would I want to waste James' precious time making a Vox commando plugin? I hear you cry in unison.

Well, the plugin in Eventghost isn't perfect.  If I add a favourite it puts it in the list alphabetically and pushes everything under it down a slot meaning that when I say Play Kerrang radio I actually get something else because the slots have changed.

More importantly though I can't figure out how to use the "get currently playing station/title" to get it to do anything.  It may just be my lack of programming knowledge and you guys might be able to tell me how to get it to speak the {LastResult} because that command doesn't work in Eventghost as far as I can tell.

You guys have any advice?

EventGhost / Eventghost localhost
« on: October 11, 2013, 04:45:31 PM »
Having wireless trouble fairly regularly at the minute and it's killing my ability to switch lights on and off etc.

I figured I would specify the eventghost IP in Vox as 127.0.0.1 so that even if the wireless was down I would still be able to switch lights on and off.

No such luck.  Is it Eventghosts fault because the broadcast plugin is listening on 192.168.0.9?  If so, any idea if it can be changed?

Love you guys :)

Other Plugins / problem with USB-UIRT beta plugin 0.2
« on: August 17, 2013, 06:22:49 AM »
Decided to try out the USBUirt plugin.  As soon as I enabled it and restarted Vox I got a crash after it had finished loading and had said "Focussed Vox Commando".  To recover Vox I had to manually open options and delete the line regarding the USBUirt plugin, Vox would then start successfully.  I downloaded the latest version of Vox and installed it clean (without any of my settings or XML) enabled the plugin and got the same crash at the same point.

I enabled the log and opened it up.  I can't actually see anything obvious because after the errors about the USBUirt pluins it carries on loading the other plugins.  Below is the only errors related to the plugin...

Hi gents,

Stupid issue really, pretty much nothing to do with Vox other than I'm trying to create a youtube video to promote Vox... but basically I'm trying to screen capture Windows Media Center and the playback of the video just goes black as soon as I switch to MCE. It doesn;t go black whilst I'm recording so it would seem it's an intentional block by Microsoft (I don't have the same issue with XBMC)

I've tried the following capture programs..

Sonne
Debut
Replay
Fraps

The only one that can capture it at all (but it's all jittery and disjointed) is Fraps.  But Fraps won't record me switching between programs so is no good anyway.

Why does the screen go black?  Is it Microsoft intentionally making life difficult?  I've googled for hours but I can't find anyone suffering the same issue.

I tried adding a registry DWORD (EnablePrintScreen) but that doesn't help.  I installed Shark007 free codecs and swapped everything away from Microsoft but that didn't help either.

I'm totally lost as I've seen people capture it so it has to be possible, but I feel like I've tried everything.

I can't see anything in NVIDIA Control panel that seems relevant, but I switched everything to "NVIDIA Settings" to be safe and the screen still goes black when playing back any capture of MCE.

Any ideas?

XBMC (Old board see 'KODI' above) / shortcut for volume amplification
« on: June 30, 2013, 06:56:19 PM »
Hey gents,

I'm sure you're already aware of the feature in XBMC to alter the amplification for any media that has not been properly normalised and is too quiet.

I can't find any shortcut to alter it using Vox.  Do you know of any?

The shortcut is there for audio offset: XJson.Btn.KB a

...and that is a really handy thing to have, I just really want to be able to alter amplification in the same way.  Any ideas?
