WAY Off Topic / Paul's new YouTube channel
« on: November 16, 2016, 07:51:25 PM »
Hi all,

Hope you're all well. It's been too long. I've had a rubbish 6 months working at a dreadful company that sapped the life out of me,  but I am now free of that nightmare and so hopefully will be returning soon to do some more home automation videos.

I'm the mean time I've started a comedy channel for a bit of fun.

Check it out if you've got a bit of time to kill :)

Please add me to this list!! This looks like amazing work as always. We'll done Kalle!  I still use my wireless RGB strip daily :)

I'm in the UK but and I don't know if it's even possible but having the ability to use both RF bands would be amazing, my stupid projector screen is on non EU band.

You guys rule.

Hi guys,

Just decided to set this up, but I'm getting stuck.  I've tried following the instructions from the YouTube video a few times but I'm getting the same issue every time.

Steps:
Import XML using drag and drop
Create nest folder using "Create Nest Folder" XML (confirmed folder is successfully created with 1 XML file therein)Enter my login details to Nest authorisation XML
Save the XML without executing the command
Restart Vox
Execute "Login to Nest" command vocally

...This is where it goes wrong.  If I open the thermolist XML file that this generates then I can see it has not populated my details, it has what I presume is an example in there...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!--A VoxCommando Payload file-->

-<PayloadsRoot>

-<payload>

<value>02AA01AC041500BA</value>

<phrase>Basement</phrase>

</payload>

</PayloadsRoot>

I definitely don't have an area/thermostat called "Basement" in my Nest account, the only Thermostat I can see when I login to the Nest web portal is called Bedroom and has a label of Bedroom.

Weirdly the commands for "Basement" control the "Bedroom" if I test them.  Any idea why Vox would be scraping the word Basement in place of the word bedroom?

Attached is the log.  My tiny mind can comprehend just about enough of it to remove my login details, but that's as far as my comprehension will take me, I can see errors about invalid files but I don't know why that would be.  Any help as always is much appreciated...

Thank you all, this has been a massive help as always

I had already paid for tasker a long time ago but hadn't had a lot of use for it outside of the NFC stuff I'd done until today.

Never used the UDP functionality of Vox before, it's taken Eventghost out of the equation for my mobile solutions. The icons that come with Tasker are also nice enough and appear at a sensible size when used as widgets.

Great stuff. Thanks all.

Hey man,

The goal is as few swipes as possible to be able to get to a remote of my most useful buttons I guess.

On my old phone I spent some time setting up Eventghost on the phone to trigger a few key commands, I'd created the Eventghost "home shortcuts" for them all, but for some reason the phone shrunk the icons which made them a bit sad to look at and an all round cheaper experience but they were livable.  I guess primarily I was just hoping the functionality was there to save me setting up Eventghost on my new phone.

The buttons I'd set up before were:
A button to trigger the existing voice command that starts the waterfall sound ("help me to sleep")
PC volume up and down buttons
An XBMC pause/resume button
Jump forward a few seconds in XBMC
Jump backwards a few seconds in XBMC
Main lights on and off
Side lights on and off
Start listening (Vox)

I know most of that is already in Kodi's remote and in the 3rd party Yatse which I use heavily at present, but having it all on one of my home panels in one place is the ideal and if it was powered by Voxwav then even better.

I'll see what the icons come out like from Eventghost on the new phone, maybe the S5 won't shrink them.

Thanks as always for your ponderance.

Hello boys and girls!

I was just playing with my new phone and thought I'd look through the widgets and was surprised to see a voxwav widget!

It doesn't seem to do anything though. It looked like it might add some buttons to my home screen for commonly used phrases so I could use my phone as a remote for Vox. This would be really useful in my bedroom for when Neesha is asleep and I need to get Alexander to perform a command like turn the lights off,  or start the waterfall. I always used Eventghost to do this previously but this would be a much better option.

Sadly I can tick the buttons but it doesn't add them to the home screen when I press back and I can't see any menu to save them. I've looked around the forum and the instructions for voxwav but can't see any mention of such a widget.

Is it not compatible with the galaxy S5 or is the widget not even supposed to be there?

Haha, good old Expensive toys.  I'll have a proper look through this thread later.  In fairness I'll probably only use a few colours anyway so I shall probably just program in some favourites and stick with them.

Here's my video as promised (not as good as Kalles) :)  You can see how sexy my new sofa is:

Enjoy:

H guys,

Firstly I wanted to apologise to Kalle for taking so long to set this up!  I tried to do a video for my channel today but my battery ran out on the camera :P  I shall try again later when it's charged and will link the video here.

It works amazingly and looks beautiful behind my sofa, I can't thank you enough buddy, it's transformed the living room.

I had a question about whether there was a quick way to integrate the Hue plugin so that when creating, storing and recalling the colours on the LED strip vox would also do the same for Hue?

I'm presuming they're too separate for this to be possible but I thought I'd ask before I start manually syncing up the two colour libraries.

Thanks,

-P

You must know me by now.  I am probably Vox Commando's laziest and stupidest ever user.

I've seen it now.  I found a log that was empty earlier but have only just now through forced embarrassment and public shaming managed to find the "Enable log" button ;)

Thanks again.

Thanks for the quick reply as always Nimester!  Hope all is well with you guys.

I went to search for an easy way to copy the log file for you and stumbled across the "Build missing grammars" command in the file menu and thought sod it I wonder what that does.  Well, it fixed it!  Very odd.  :biglaugh  Never had to use that before so not sure what's caused me to need it now.

Never mind, important thing is I can now move on to setting up the dining room PC  ;)

Hi all,

God knows what's happened but all of a sudden I can't use the command "browse TV show Family guy" for example.

The log shows: XJson.Raw:GUI.ActivateWindow&&"window":"video"."paramaters": ["videodb://2/2/38"] and displays no error but Kodi just launches a blank window.

The top right corner of says "Videos - 38".  38 is the reference in the payload for Family guy but here are no shows.  I've made sure Show watched is ticked but still nothing.

All other commands are working fine.  if I say "Play a random episode of family guy" then it loads just fine.

Any idea what I've done wrong??

Thanks,

-P
