launch.openurl
« on: April 06, 2014, 09:57:12 PM »
I got a few sites I visit regularly set up to open using VC version 1.1.1.9. On my computer which is windows 8.1 my default browser is firefox. When I issue a command to open a web site it opens in internet explorer. Do I need to set a param to have it open in firefox even though firefox is already my default browser?

Also James. Where can I find some Buck Jones? I have looked everywhere. He is scarce.

Launch openurl should open in your default browser.  If it isn't doing that (and I can't imagine why not) then you can just use launch.  The first param would be the path to your firefox browser executable, and the second param would the url of the website.

This is covered in one of the fireside chats on our youtube channel.

There is only one Buck Jones album.  It is (was) my brother in law's band.  I think the whole album is on Grooveshark: http://grooveshark.com/#!/album/Buck+Jones/6546542

hmmm.  Grooveshark is a bit funny.  To get the whole album I had to create a playlist.  Weirdness:

For the record, I just did a test using Windows 8.1 and the Launch.OpenUrl action correctly uses my default browser (chrome) to open the url and not internet explorer.

If it is not working as expected for you then I suspect that the most likely reason is that Firefox is not actually your default browser.  It is possible that you have set Firefox as the default for opening files of type .htm or .html but that does not mean it is the default for handling the http protocol.

Maybe have a look here and see if it helps: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/choose-programs-windows-uses-default

James,

It is working correctly now. Even though I had told windows to use firefox as my default browser that was not enough. I had to actually go into firefox setting and tell firefox to be my default browser. So it is working now like it should.
