Grooveshark
« on: July 08, 2011, 10:02:18 PM »
I'm checking out grooveshark and it looks interesting.  If I start using it, I may also want to create some VC speech functionality for it.  Is anyone using it / familiar with it?

Hello James,

There are plugin grooveshark for XBMC,

The script brings GrooveShark to XBMC. Search for and play all that GrooveShark has to offer. Set your login in the script and you'll be able to access your playlists, delete and rename them or create new ones.

it doesn't work with the version of xbmc I'm using ( a nightly from a while back).  It just freezes xbmc and I have to use task manager to get out and end the process.  I wonder if it works with 10.1.

In the mean time you can start using Grooveshark right away with any modern web browser, and you don't even need to create an account.

After I install this nightly I lose my sub-menus in Aeon.  How do we get them back?

edit: nevermind, I just needed to update Aeon to rev. 107

so Grooveshark works now, sort of.  I was able to access my favourites and to perform a search, then play a song (a big sluggish).

After I leave the grooveshark plugin to go to the main menu etc., it won't let me back in!  Does this happen to anyone else?  It seems like a nice plugin when it works, but a bit slow to respond compared to the web site.

Also, Grooveshark's free plan is based on advertising so this plugin probably won't be very popular with them!

James,
Grooveshark looks interesting.  If you develop some vox controls for it, it would be much more interesting.  I am not sure of what all it does, but you can select individual songs, which beats Pandora, but can it suggest artists like Pandora?

I'm not sure but I can't use Pandora because it only works in the US and I am in Canada.  Same problem with spotify, except that service only works in the UK and a few other countries.  This is a problem with many services.

I don't know what the deal is with Grooveshark.  They sell themselves as a legitimate service but it is kind of hard to believe since anybody can upload anything.  I have not explored it that much but so far, while there are some good things about it, it does not look like there is a lot of room for outside development at the moment.  We shall see.  One thing we can do without having to change the actual program, is to set up a grooveshark search for artists that are already in your library in case you want to see what else is available from that artist.

we can basically create a command like "Groove Search {payloadxml: artists}"
and then use the action

Launch.OpenURL      |        http://grooveshark.com/#/search?q={1}

or you could create a command that "groove searches" the currently playing artist.  this would vary depending on whether you used xbmc, itunes, mediamonkey etc.

I haven't played enough to say how it works but I did find this on some site...

Grooveshark is a Music streaming service providing user-uploaded MP3s for listening in a flash-based player. It also has an intergrated social network-type service and provides suggestions to you based on your listening habits similar to last.fm .
