I can't get any combination to work that will give me any workable results:
T
Nothing winds up being a usable solution; has anyone that listens to 24 bit audio AND watches 1080p movies along with DTS-MA/TrueHD managed to get TTS to work?

I already suggested that you send TTS and video directly to the TV on HDMI and send audio to your receiver on the other HDMI.  Have you tried this?  This is the perfect solution if you can get it to work.

XBMC can't adjust audio when using digital pass through, so softmute won't work.  You need to pause or adjust the receiver audio.  If you have only IR then direct volume control for ducking will be a challenge.  If you have discrete code you can use mute/unmute otherwise you'll need to pause, or do volume down 5 times / volume up 5 times or something similar

I'll try this again, I evidently got it wrong as I couldn't get it to work.
I assume I'll be going into the sound app in control panel and configure everything there?

Am still having no luck.
My video is going out from my NUC to my TV
My audio is going out from my NUC to my receiver

I went into the speech recognition settings in the control panel and chose text to speech and from there chose the audio output to be my TV
From there, I only saw the default Microsoft voice listed (I'm on a 64-bit OS), I tested the voice and all was good

I then went into VC and went into options and selected my 32-bit Kate voice and hit play/test or whatever the button says and the audio came out of the TV  for the voice. So, I'm like, all is good!

Then started up XBMC and started listening to a song
then said "What song is this" into my amulet devices remote

The audio receiver volume mutes.. I see "What song is this" 87.9% and - XBMC get Now playing info..
then on the screen I see the song name and the receiver audio goes back up to max BUT the TV speaker never has any audio coming out from it

so close!!!

Hmmm, did it work with the MS voice on TV?
To get save, go in VC options -> system -> click "TTS settings" -> click "advanced" -> select "preferred audio device" and select your HDMi which you use for the TV

test it again

You can test it also with a headphone on the NUC audio output (don't forget to change the output for the TTS in "TTS settings"

thanks for everyone's help but I've given up. Have spent too many hours reinstalling, tweaking, just trying to get it to work without any luck.
best to you all
