i have been using voxcommando for a while now and i feel that i would benefit from a better quality mic however being a student, i dont have a lot of money to spend on a decent one.
i am considering the trust starzz microphone (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trust-16973-Starzz-Microphone/dp/B003MFYY3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388247258&sr=8-1&keywords=high+quality+microphone) however i wonder if this is too cheap to produce audio thatvox commando will find useful.
ideally i need a microphone with decent noise cancelling as i run vox from a laptop, which also runs xbmc to a connected monitor.
anybody got a suggestion of a better mic?

Best cheap microphone will be a wired headset.
If buying an untested mic you should avoid mail order in case you want to return it, should you be dissatisfied.

Based on the devices in your signature, you may want to try VoxWav.

i have tried voxwav, however i don't want to pick my phone or tablet up every time i want to talk to the computer, i am trying to make it as though i am asking another person to do something.

I would highly recommend that you search ebay/internet for a plantronics C60 USB microphone. I have one and it works perfect in my setup.

I notice Paul hibbert Uses a Samson CO1U - USB Studio Condenser Microphone mounted on his headboard in his home automation system (&feature=youtube_gdata_player)
Does anybody have an opinion on this mic? Anybody tested it?

I use this smartwatch with the VoxWav app and it works perfect.

I am currently using a Blue Yeti:

Using an open air mic is great if you don't want to be bothered with holding/wearing the microphone and does allow for a more 'Jarvis' like environment. (Which was the reason I chose one as well). However as James has mentioned in many previous posts recognition will suffer compared to using a mic that is (or can be brought) close to your mouth. Be prepared to repeat instructions on occasion and for the recognition for vary depending on where you are facing and where in the room you are. Using a prefix and ducking a pretty much mandatory if you are going to use this type of mic in my experience so far. With that said I have been very happy with mine.
As an aside I got the Blue Yeti to replace a MXL AC404 conference mic:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TGTDFM/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TGTDFM/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
which also worked well but I find myself repeating commands less frequently with the new mic.
I realize that neither of those is exactly cheap but those are only two have experience with so far. Best of luck in your search and let us know how whichever mic you decide on works out.

It almost seems worth getting that in order to be able to display the artful form of a giant-phallus-headed robot! I am glad that the microphone is not actually blue. :)
