Friend of mine just downloaded VoxCommando from the site to try it out on my request.
he gets a msg with title : ''Error accessing the default audio device: Close the app and check .."
System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: collection
at System.ThrowHelper.ThrowArgumentNullException(ExceptionArgument argument)
at System.Collections.Generic.List`1..ctor(IEnumerable`1 collection)
at System.Speech.Recognition.RecognizerBase.UnloadAllGrammars()
at System.Speech.Recognition.SpeechRecognitionEngine.UnloadAllGrammars()
at VoxCommando.Main.Ini
I told him to reboot and redownload + reinstall, anything you could add James ?

I believe he does not have a microphone on your system, it is required, and can generate this type of error, and this has or misconfigured.
-
Well he has a microphone :D
it's set correctly in windows recording devices and it works fine in Skype.
-
Which file did he download?
Does he have the english language packs installed in W7?
Can you post his log file as well please.
-
His log file shows no errors, only 2 lines in it :
18-02-2011 22:00:02 VoxLog created:
18-02-2011 22:00:02 Starting VoxCommando, version: 0.851
He has a Danish Windows 7 Home Edition and you can only download language packs of windows vista and 7 if you have Enterprise or Ultimate versions only :(
To answer which file he Downloaded -> http://www.voxcommando.com/files/VoxCommando%20%200_851.zip the standard one from the 19th on the voxcommando main page.
I think the Danish windows 7 will be the problem right ? Anyway to work arround this to get it to work ?

You must have a language pack that supports speech recognition! This is non-negotiable.
If you don't mind, I would love if you could patch to the latest version and try again. It won't work, but I am hoping that the error message will be more useful.
I have read that it is possible to install language packs on "normal" versions of Windows 7 via various hacks, but that's all I can tell you. You will have to research it yourself. Be warned that it may be considered illegal to do this, or it may damage your installation of Windows, I don't know for sure, and I have never tried it so I cannot say if it works. My guess is that it is possible to do it though.

Ok he no gets the message "Your OS does not support speech recognition. You must install a language pack ...."
And he found some program now that does install support voice recognition to any version/language of windows 7. I don't have more details on that for the time being.
-
Great. I'm glad to hear that my updated error message is working. I have not had much chance to test that particular one since all my computers have English on them, obviously.
-
Well he's happy to help out :D ... :bonk
-
Ok he got it to work.
For the people who are in the same position follow these steps to english'tise your windows :D
1. Go to http://www.froggie.sk/
2. Download the MUI for your windows version and platform
3. Download vistalizator.exe
4. Just follow the instructions
5. Reboot and viola -> English Windows which will support voice recognition that will allow vox commando to work
I think my friend did all this in under half an hour.
