Title: Learning IR with Global Cache iTach
Post by: jitterjames on August 27, 2013, 06:24:54 PM
Here is a demo of learning codes from the Global Caché iTach wifi2IR using voice commands.

&index=5

- Update VC to version 1.1.5.0
- Import the attached group xml
- Edit the 1st command in the group: "TCP connect iTach Client"
    - in the second parameter of the action replace 192.168.0.134 with the IP address of your iTach.

Off you go!

Hi Etrust and welcome in VC-Forum.
Yes, I can confirm that the GC-WiFi-flex works with it, so you can buy it  ;)

Hi Etrust and welcome in VC-Forum.
Yes, I can confirm that the GC-WiFi-flex works with it, so you can buy it  ;)

thank you very much for letting me know!!

Have I understand that I also will ned to buy this:
http://www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-Tri-port-Cable-FL-T3/dp/B00CDSA0XO/ref=pd_bxgy_pc_img_y

AND this:
http://www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-Flex-Emitter-FL-E/dp/B00CEK3W8G/ref=pd_bxgy_pc_img_y

And will be able than to control only one device like my tv? And if I will need to control 3 devices I will need 3 of this:
http://www.amazon.com/Global-Cache-Flex-Emitter-FL-E/dp/B00CEK3W8G/ref=pd_bxgy_pc_img_y

Is that right? Cant wait to buy it!

I just have buy voxcommando. I love this toll and can control all my lights and thermostat with my voice. Now I need only to control my tv, dvd and stereo :=)

I'm not sure which parts are in the GC flex box (maybe a ermitter).
If you want control one device, you need only one ermitter without the 3 port cable.
If you want control more than one device, you need all the parts which you have linked.
Sometimes a new TV comes with a tri-port cable which can connect to RGB input on the TV (it is absolute similar to the tri-port cable for the GC), so take first a look on you equipment, maybe you have this part and can save money.

I hope this info will help you to buy the right parts.

With this you can control everything from across the room as long as you have line of sight.

http://www.amazon.com/7ft-single-blaster-Infrared-Resources/dp/B0039BYJ4A/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1416053624&sr=1-3&keywords=global+cache+flex+ir+blaster

But having an emitter directly on your unit will be more reliable.

USBUIRT is cheaper but must be plugged in to the USB port of your computer (or your Vera).

iTach can be used when your PC is off.

There are other minor differences but these are really the most important differences.

UUIRT has the advantage of being able to receive IR as well and generate events in VC and/or EventGhost, so if you want to use EventGhost and your computer is always on anyway, UUIRT wins hands down, IMO.

Both are pretty good at learning codes, but I think UUIRT is a bit easier to use for learning.

Hi,

Let me get this straight.  In James video, he used 1 blaster to control multiple devices and also across the room?   Can it go as far as 10ft away?

It can go more than 10 feet.  I would say that it might be able to go up to 30 feet but it will depend on many factors, such as angle, clear line of sight, and the sensitivity of the device receiving the IR.  Other sources of IR may also interfere which I guess could reduce the range (I'm not really sure about this).

I think it is safe to say that the range will probably be as good as a normal hand-held remote control, or better.

Thanks.

For the USB-UIRT, does it have to be in line of sight?  My laptop and onkyo receiver is under the tv.  I have one remote from my cable tv that can turn both on and that remote has no problem turn on the tv even under it.  I wonder the UIRT can do the same too?

This has been discussed quite a bit already on the forum.  All IR requires line of sight, except that sometimes it can bounce off objects if the signal is strong enough.

http://youtu.be/YHyiobPXGwU?t=14m19s

The UUIRT has a blaster on the front (built in) and extra ports on the back that you can attach a cable to for small short range emitters that you can run directly to the device.

The iTach also has multiple ports and you can attach short range emitters, or blasters to them.

Maybe you should look at the UUIRT web site.

Thanks.

I read that the UIRT has a good range but just want to confirm from someone that owns one (if possible right under the tv since my remote works too). I prefer not to have extra wires laying around.  So it's between the UIRT or the more expensive iTach.
