Title: XBMC Eden 11 with support audio Dolby true HD and DTS HD
Post by: Wanilton on May 01, 2011, 07:06:41 PM
Hello my friends,

IT´S ONLY FOR XBMC 11, not for use with XBMC Dharma 10.1.

Great news, today I tested XBMC 11 (eden), with support for HD Audio, and this work fine, I am very happy with results,

First install the last version XBMC 11 beta 2, link here:
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win32/xbmc-11.0-Eden_beta2.exe

after:

link for download, released 02/01/2012:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/XBMCHD.zip

This zip files, is only my actual directory XBMC in format ZIP.

Install: unzip the files over your actual folder in XBMC, don´t have install, very easy, in my case win7 64 bits, here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC.

Dolby true hd

DTS HD* (won't bitstream full DTS-HD yet, just the core stream)
(https://voxcommando.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2Fdownloads%2FWanilton%2FVoxCommando%2Fdts-hd.jpg&hash=16599776f1a0dec921495a79192da7e7bf1425ac)

Config Audio in Settings:

Requirements:
Windows 7 (Vista may work, but there are no guarantees as it doesn't officially support these formats).
An ATI/AMD 5xxx or newer card, an Nvidia 4xx series or newer card, an Asus Xonar card or a newer Intel video chipset.
A receiver that supports these formats hooked up via HDMI.

Thanks, i discovery other way to test this, no necessary use the same folder original XBMC,  for this  I create a new folder XBMC2, unzip the version HD, download here http://www.multiupload.com/2P75XHBODP, and start using the new version hd XBMC, running fine too.

Yes, there are progress in AudioEngine Branch:
Now TrueHD and DTS-HD are working ok.
Here the announce developer Gnif:

I am extremely proud and happy to announce that with the help of Anssi, dtsHD-MA now works in AE
Edit:
I should note that there are some hard-coded values for MA which need correcting, so don't expect HR to work yet.

AE is not merged in XBMC Nightlies yet...

code here:
https://github.com/gnif/xbmc

Needs compile in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010...binary builds are not to be released yet, if you wish for a windows build you should get Visual Studio and do it yourself (its free), he has only updated the Visual Studio build files for building XBMC from source.

Instrucion about this in XBMC wiki:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW-TO_compile_XBMC_for_Windows_from_source_code

Great, that seems pretty straight forward.

Will be interesting to try it out.

Using MPC-HC with XBMC works ok but was never the most integrated solution.

I wonder if this will help with my AC3 sound issues.  When I watch TV shows that have AC3 Stereo (only 2 channels) audio, using digital output through coax, I get sound dropouts (silent bits).  Switching xbmc to analog mode fixes it, but it is a pain having to switch back and forth.  5.1 AC3 or anything using DTS instead of AC3 works fine.  It's really weird.  I hope it is not my Onkyo's fault.

Hello James,

I think it´s no problem in share this compiled version here,

link for download,
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/xbmc2.zip

Create new directory with the name XBM2 and unzip the content there, don´t have install

Create shortcut for xbmc.exe in desktop, and run.

Remember this version is only for windows, version XBMC EDEN with audio HD...

Not is necessary delete all previous install,

Sound volume is 0, press button + in keyboard for more volume.

I hope this release fix your problem James,

Remeber this version is for brave only, for me repeat it´s ok, but...

Wanilton

Qualquer dúvida estou a disposição, esta versão é original, não alterei o código fonte, apenas compilei, testei e esta funcional...
James se você ver problemas, ou testar e não estiver adequado, favor deletar o post.

Does the link work with DTS-HD MA fully or still just the core version?

Nvm the link doesn't appear to work anymore  :(

Yes DTS-HD Fully...and link for donwload is ok, i test now, fine here.

There are a option in settings: USE EXCLUSIVE MODE, what is this?

Exclusive mode under Windows lets an application take complete control of the audio output device. This is necessary for passthrough since you an't mix bitstreamed audio, but it also allows for unmolested PCM audio to be output.
When exclusive mode is turned off sounds from both XBMC and other programs can be played simultaneously, but it also means that all audio has to be resampled to whatever format Windows wants. I.E. if the Windows mixer wants everything in 48khz then we have to resample everything to 48khz. With exclusive mode on, however, audio will be untouched provided that your sound card or receiver directly supports the sample rate of your media. It will also not be mixed, volume corrected or otherwise changed once it leaves XBMC. In essence, you can get "bit-perfect" audio with exclusive mode.
Exclusive mode is an option of WASAPI, it is not WASAPI. AE has full WASAPI support.

Wanilton thanks for sharing your build... works like a charm !!! the only thing is XBMC doesnt transcode AAC5.1 when the audio output set to HDMI.. AAC5.1 only works when audio output set to optical. i think this issue present even in Dharma10.1..  anyway great share....

This works amazingly well.

I have been fighting MPC to try and get it to play things back smoothly and this removes the need for it  ;D

My only concern is that the play back seems a bit grainy, but might have been the 2 movies i tested, haven't had a chance to do some proper testing yet.

For some reason I get no navigation sounds.  Everything else seems to work like a charm.  Loving the DTS-MA tracks!  Any idea how to get navigation sounds back?

if you are getting no interface sounds at all that would indicate a problem.

But, if you only get no interface sounds while playing DTS audio, I think that is to be expected since the digital stream is being passed directly to your amp and nothing can be added.  Same problem with DTS and AC3 movies if you try to use TTS or otherwise generate sounds from your PC.  The amp will be locked onto the DTS stream and nothing else will play.

I'm no expert on this, it is just based on my recent experience with my Onkyo 5.1 receiver and XBMC.

On all other installations of XBMC navigation sounds work fine.  On this one, I get no navigation sounds whether I am playing a movie or not.  DTS-MA and all other audio formats play fine during movie playback.  Currently using a Radeon 5570 with HDMI to my Denon AVR-991.

Have you made sure you turned up the PCM volume level?  By default its set to zero in these builds.  That could cause no UI sounds (it would also cause any PCM playback, like mp3, etc) to not be heard.   Press 0 and then + on your keyb/remote to turn it up.

If that doesn't do the trick, I am not sure.  Does your receiver register that it's getting a PCM stream when you are sitting in the GUI without any movie playing?

I turned up the PCM volume like you advised but it won't go any higher than 1db.   If I put my ear right up to the speaker I can hear the navigation sounds.  Any way to make them louder?

Great Wanilton,

Will there be a way to get theses features through digital optical cable?

I know you specified certain cards but can you tell me what your using, that way I know for sure that I won't be wasting my time buying something that doesn't work.

Thanks

I have a couple of 5.1 96/24 flac files that I downloaded to test this special version of XBMC (thanks Wanilton)

I am using coax output from my motherboard (asus m3n78 pro with realtek sound chip).

I get 5.1 DTS sound but my amp (Onkyo tx-nr509) reports input as 48/16 not 96/24

there are so many factors and I don't really know how all this stuff works.  Maybe my amp doesn't like it, maybe I need to use hdmi instead of coax etc.  There could be a problem with the files I have.  maybe flac is not the best format...

I could not get this thing to play with 5.1 in any other program.  I tried MediaMonkey, Foobar2000, and Winamp.  I tried various filters decoders etc.
Total waste of time!

I am too lazy to try with hdmi because I have hdmi going directly from the computer to the TV and I like it that way!

A note to others:  I think Wanilton is just building XBMC with a patch applied to it.  I don't think he knows too much about the code or how it works.  If you really want advanced help or want to report bugs etc. then you should probably get in touch with the folks that are making the patch.
Title: Re: XBMC Eden 11 with support audio Dolby true HD and DTS HD
Post by: jitterjames on August 16, 2011, 09:29:54 AM
OK, I understand a little better now.  It seems that DTS 96/24 contains a core stream of 48/16 for compatibility, and then addition information is available as an "extension" which contains extra information.  It is actually pretty complicated, but it explains how my amp was able to play it, because I didn't think XBMC would be converting it to 48/16.

from DTS website:  http://www.dts.com/DTS_Audio_Formats/DTS_Digital_Surround_PLUS_Extensions.aspx

Quote
HOW DOES CORE + EXTENSION WORK?
The original DTS engineers designed a unique, future-proof coding system that has a “Core + Extension” structure. The DTS “core” contains data for a 5.1-channel system, operating at 44.1 or 48kHz, with a bit rate of 1.5Mbps (mega-bits per second). As DTS has introduced new technologies, these new “extensions” can then be added onto the core, providing higher performance. So, if you have an older DTS-capable receiver, it will “ignore” any extensions and just decode the core — ensuring you of compatibility and very high quality. And, a newer DTS-capable receiver will decode both the core AND the most recent extension it’s capable of handling, for compatibility and even higher quality. The result: An immediate boost in quality vs. other surround formats, and compatibility into the future.

The thing is, I know my receiver is 96/24 capable, but is somehow not recognizing the extra info.  I don't know if that is XBMC's fault, or a problem with the file I have.  If someone knows of a free sample file that is known to work with XBMC at full 5.1 96/24 that would be nice.

So, my receiver is capable, but the question is, are my ears capable of telling the difference between 48/16 and 96/24.  I seriously doubt it, but my dog might appreciate it!

If possible send me a link with an track in 96/24, i test here for you using HDMI cable...

Hi Wanilton and JitterJames,

At the present time I'm using media portal. I have it configured it to play all my DTS audio and Dolby files, however I like the look of XBMC.
I have an Auzentech soundcard using optical cable, works great until I try XBMC. DTS down mixes to 2 channels. My Onkyo receiver doesn't change to DTS - stays Dobly.
The Auzentech card is awesome no complaints when playing anything. I'm wondering if XBMC just doesn't like the card itself, or if I have to configure Windows 7 differently.
Thanks for getting back to me. I may replace my video card, just to get this working. Great work again and thanks for all the useful help.

I'm pretty sure spdif or optical is limited to 5.1 in 48hz/16bits compressed in either Dolby or DTS (no 5.1 FLAC since it is lossless) and stereo in 96hz/24bits.

I think that is why you can only hear the core DTS.

Going through hdmi will not have this limitations...
Title: Re: XBMC Eden 11 with support audio Dolby true HD and DTS HD
Post by: jitterjames on August 18, 2011, 08:49:45 PM
Thanks very much for the suggestion.  You are probably right about the limitation of spdif (though I'd be surprised if optical was also limited in this way), and on top of that I'm just using the yellow leads from a cheap RCA AV cable as my coax.  However,  I tried HDMI but that didn't seem to help.  It is of no real consequence.  As long as I get my 5.1 movies and CD quality audio that is what counts, and 5.1 audio is a nice bonus.  96/24 is overkill IMO but unfortunately once you go to 5.1 audio it is usually par for the course, which means the files are truly massive.

the test file I have is confusing.  It is a DTS 5.1 flac.  Flac is supposed to be lossless, but as I understand it, in this case it is acting more like a container for the DTS which is lossy, though still very high bitrate.  Honestly, it's a wonder that I can play it at all!

Really I just wanted to know if I was able to play these files and to see if I could hear a difference.  Since I can't, I will just avoid this massive format!  If anyone knows of any good sources for 5.1 gently compressed (DTS or AC3) 48/16 audio please pass it along.

I really enjoy being able to use my htpc with my receiver either turned off, or set to another audio input, so COAX is much better for me, with the HDMI going direct to the TV.

yeah, it looks like a limitation on optical too.  Basically a bandwidth limitation.  In the case of the optical it must be a limit that was imposed to reduce cost.  That is to say, the medium would probably be capable of the bandwidth, but the circuitry is not.  In the case of my crappy coax cable I can see how it might even be physically impossible to send that much info down a single wire without errors.  This particular file is 8000KBPS, according to XBMC.

do you have the time to make a new compile with a current nightly?
So we also can have some of the new features in it?
(for example Airplay)

Please?

New solution for audio hd, this windows version use other native player for XBMC (DSPlayer), with original menu ok, here instructions for install Eden version...with audio hd...

In this link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/Xbmcdspplayer.zip, download my compiled version with files ok, run in mode portable, need install LAV filters, and config audio e video filters too, of course..

Remember that you can run XBMC in portable mode with -p. I recommend this to everyone who wants to test this on a system with an existing installation of XBMC.
Install it to a different location than your existing installation then create a shortcut to XBMC.exe and add -p to the target line.

***THE GUIDE*** for install using step by step follow the guide, or if you use my version http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/Xbmcdspplayer.zip (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/Xbmcdspplayer.zip), only necessary unzip xbmcdspplayer.zip, create shortcut, change for portable mode, and install and configure LAV filters, done.

The Config audio in xbmc, go to settings, video, dsplayer - audio renderer is here in video area.

Necessary Files
1.Download the latest build of DSPlayer from
http://dsplayer.passion-xbmc.org/

Additional links also sometimes provided here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=106629
This is the official XBMC with DSPlayer thread which is still running and open, so if you encounter problems, it's one of the best places to go to catch other users or Tiben's attention.

(All credit goes to Tiben and BlinkSeb for creating DSplayer, and 0wing for putting together this unnofficial, Pre-Eden build).

2. Download the latest LAV Filters installer from
http://1f0.de/downloads/.
At the time of writing this, the latest version is 0.44

2a. Download my pre-setup DSPlayer XML files pack (this simplifies the setup process, rather than you having to create/amend the necessary files yourself).
http://www.mediafire.com/?shhv882weatedlo

Initial Setup
3. Install XBMC as though it were the normal build, load it up and setup all your preferences, such as true fullscreen rather than windowed. Once this is done, exit XBMC, do not try to play anything yet.

4. Install the LAV Filters using the LAV installer downloaded previously (ensure you install the x86 version of the LAV files, even if you are using Windows x64, as XBMC/DSPlayer can only use x86 filters)

5. Go to the new LAV Filters start menu option and pick LAV Audio Configuration. Under formats, tick all those you wish to bitstream. You shouldn't have to change anything else, so just click OK once this is done.
6. OPTIONAL STEP if you want to enable CUVID Nvidia hardware decoding or set uniform RGB output values.
Go to LAV Filters in the start menu again and this time pick LAV Video. If you want to enable CUVID video decoding, or RGB output values you can do so here.
-I have some files that don't play nicely decoded by CUVID so I left hardware acceleration set to none

Configuring XBMC to use DSPlayer
- For these steps you will need my DSPlayerfiles pack, which you should have downloaded under step 2a (you can create/edit the files yourself...but this is easier)

7. Navigate to your XBMC Userdata folder
(On Win7 this will usually be C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\userdata)
8.Copy advancedsettings.xml from my pack here. This file will tell XBMC to use DSPlayer instead of DVDPlayer for videos by default.
9. Now create a folder inside Userdata called 'dsplayer'. Put renderersettings.xml from my pack in here.

-This will tell DSPlayer to render subtitles at 1080p, and also to enable subtitle animation. If you screen isn't 1080p, your machine is too slow to fluently render high res subs at the same time as Hi10p, or you don't want animated subs, you can edit the file with notepad to suit your needs, it should be fairly self explanatory

10. Leave your userdata folder behind and go to your XBMC install folder. (Usually this will be C:\Program Files(x86)\XBMC).
Go into the system subfolder, then players and finally into the dsplayer subfolder (XBMC\system\players\dsplayer).

11. Make a backup copy of mediasconfig.xml and filtersconfig.xml incase you ever want to go back to the originals. (ie mediasconfig.bak)
12. Copy the mediasconfig.xml and filtersconfig.xml from my files pack into the folder, replacing the originals.

*************

13. Now load up XBMC, and open a video of your choice. Go to the in-playback video options menu.
14. Change the scaling option to Bicubic or Bilinear, rather than Nearest Neighbour. This will resolve blockiness issues which occasionally catches out people new to the player. Once you have set your chosen option scroll down to the bottom of the video options menu and save this as the default for all videos; this will prevent you having to set this up for each video.
Like with MPC-HC, these scaling options will very slightly affect performance, but can also help make low res video scaled to HD resolutions far more tolerable. For reference I use Bicubic -0.75

14. Enjoy!

This probably sounds loads more complicated than it is, but once you've done it a couple of times it's really easy, especially if you've got the .xml files already setup and just needing copied into the right places

As an aside, if you right click/press C whilst a file is highlighted in XBMC, you should be able to use the 'Play using' option to use DVDPlayer instead of DSPlayer for any files it disagrees with.

**********

Hope this helps!

The default files provided by the XBMC DSPlayer branch specify to use the included mpc-hc video decoder filter, and also to use FFDshow for the audio, which you needed to install seperately.

As the LAV decoders have been a little more reliable for certain filetypes and bitstreaming, and also was one of the first video decoders to incorporate proper Hi10p support; my xml files reconfigure every video type DSPlayer would traditionally play with FFDShow to use the LAV filters instead, simplifying installation for a new user (compared to the V1 files which only did this for MKV)

The official DSPlayer splitter and LAV's splitter also come from the same code base so this is as much a homage to thier work together as anything else, however the LAV Splitter should be slightly more up to date!

LAV Video decoder defaults to multithreaded CPU only decoding, unless you explicitly enable CUVID [ATI equivalent due as a future option].
If you find this is too much for your CPU, you may amend the mediasconfig.xml to use the original default MPC video decoder again which will utilise DXVA, however, I cannot guarantee if this as yet will fully support 10bit h264 out the box.

Wanilton, any chance you might be able to compile the new build for us Windows users that can't figure out how to do it on our own?
I've been using one of the previous AE builds and want try this one out.

Wanilton you are an absolute star

I tried to build one myself over the weekend and failed

Can't wait to try this out.

The biggest feature improvement of the latest version of Eden to the original build is it includes more network drive options, one of which works a lot more smoothly with my QNAP

Fingers crossed it all works

Hi all, it's DDDamian here from the XBMC forums. Just an update for those waiting for an integrated HD-audio solution in XBMC with the new AudioEngine.

Gnif, the developer of the AudioEngine branch, has resumed coding work and done a tremendous amount in the last two weeks. I've been fortunate enough to help him out on the WASAPI (Windows) side so he can concentrate on the ALSA (Linux) side and the core itself.

We've been coding, testing and tweaking including performance testing core parts of the code to try find the right balance between low latency and some tolerance for other events like python threads and other CPU activity. Some audio dropouts are happening as we're setup for extremely low latency on higher-end machines, but we'll be adding advancedsettings options for buffer sizing to reduce those occurances on lower-powered machines.

The latest code still has a few issues (largely breaking things as features get added and code reworked) but there's very definite progress. I think for every attempt to just focus on stability a new little feature get's thrown in, as dithering of 16-bit sources (a good thing) did just this past weekend.

There is still enough to do that gnif doesn't want to release binaries yet, but folks can feel free to follow the thread and compile versions of their own if they are capable of doing so independently.

There's a build just done by Wanilton on the 29th, and he picked a lucky date to grab the source, because it was a very stable build, but hard-coded with very low latency buffers, so most users will find drops in the audio, as mentioned above. I haven't testing his build, but mine from that day was probably the best yet, if the compiler is set to full optimisation.

Anyways, development has been going full-tilt, and ppl can watch the progress in the thread or on the main repository at GitHub. I'm now using it as my primary player, but I also have access to and knowledge of the various tweaks, so I wouldn't recommend it for eveyone now. But it's *this* close  ;D

@DDDamian,

I'm using since yesterday the compiled version from wanilton. i can say, this version is very good. truehd working without problems dd and dts also no problem, but there is only a problem with DTS HD Master there are discontinues sometimes. If you could fix this for now, would be great., so we can have a version without discontinues on dts hd. the most of us would be happy.

i'm using ati radeon 6850 with onkyo 609. CPU on true hd or dts hd master is the same as on DD or dts. something like 10-15%. so no problems.

Hopefully we can have a build with a better buffer before long and then i think most of us will be very happy  ;D

Thanks for the info and for your hard work on this project DDDamian.  It sounds like maybe you would be able to direct Wanilton to the correct line of code to change in the build that he chose on the 29th, so that he could change the hard coded buffer size to a safer value and rebuild.  Just a thought, for those who don't want to wait.  I don't personally use this build yet, but I'm happy to know it is in development.

Since you are "in the know" I wonder if I can pick your brain a bit.  We have a problem with this and the regular build, any time we are playing 5.1 content with a direct stream (sorry I don't know the exact, correct terminology) where we are unable to use our TTS (text to speech) because the hardware is in some kind of "exclusive mode".  I understand that there is no solution to this and maybe there never will be.  I'm just wondering if you know if there is a way to inject sound into this stream, or if there could be some other solution.  I believe that interface sounds are also disabled when running in this exclusive mode.

Thx guys - I knew there was a lot of interest here so I wanted to update you. In fact it was playing with Wanilton's build of last July that got me excited about the project and involved. Just want to note that this is gnif's baby and I'm just a user that is helping where I can (and where he allows lol).

If Wanilton still has the source from that build there are two places in AESinkWASAPI that define the buffer. After that date a bug was introduced in TrueHD playback, so I wouldn't recommend a current pull.  One is under InitializeShared the other under InitializeExclusive, and both will read something similar to:
Code: [Select]
if(hnsPeriodicity < 500000) hnsPeriodicity = 500000;The number represents the buffer length in 10nanosecond units, so divide by 10,000 to get milliseconds. In this case its 50msec long. Depending on your hardware and other running threads/applications, safe values might be 100msec for Shared mode and 70msec for Exclusive.
I note that 50msec works fine on my rig, but it's fairly fast.  In all cases the compiler must be set to optimize the code - without optimization turned on I wouldn't guarentee anything.

@jitterjames - AE will now mix in GUI sounds in Exclusive mode, but any external sounds (Windows sounds, etc) are silenced in this mode. That is because AE locks the driver which prevents other applications from producing sound. Only other XBMC sounds like GUI sounds are mixed in, and only if set on the settings page. So no, there never will be a solution to that - it's just the very nature of Exclusive mode. An application which requests Exclusive mode gets exactly that - sole access to the audio driver.  That said, when I have my music cranked the last thing I want is a 98db Windows alert  :biglaugh  Should work fine in Shared mode though.

I'll try to remember to flag it in this forum when I think there's a suitable time for a new build. And hat's off to Wanilton for making his builds available - it's what got me hooked on AE to begin with!

yes, the problem is that it seems to operate in exclusive mode with all 5.1 content even though "Use Exclusive Mode" has not been selected.  This is the case with this build and with Eden vanilla.  Maybe it is just the way it has to be with 5.1 digital content.  It makes sense since the data is basically being passed to the amp unmolested (which is good), but I thought you might have some ideas.
Title: Re: XBMC Eden 11 with support audio Dolby true HD and DTS HD
Post by: DDDamian on February 01, 2012, 03:35:51 PM
@jitterjames - That's true, as the audio device drivers are recognizing the stream as DD5.1 or DTS or whichever and thus passing through the data. Calls to Windows to open new streams will result in an error stating the playback device is in use.

There is a workaround: in the audio settings page un-check "Use Exclusive mode". Also uncheck "Dolby Digital capable receiver" and "DTS capable receiver". If you're using the AE build uncheck all except "Multichannel LPCM capable receiver".

Now XBMC decodes AC3 and DTS audio to LPCM, the native format for Windows mixing. Other applications like VC can now have their streams mixed. Your receiver will no longer read the stream as AC3 or DTS, but as LPCM. And the Windows mixer will be able to mix other PCM sources like your TTS into the stream.

Basically you're disabling passthrough of those two formats, but transcoding them natively within XBMC, and other applications can join in the fun.

Note that DTS-HD cannot be transcoded internally, but TrueHD can. With the workaround above you would get TTS on all formats except DTS-HD.

Sounds promising.  Thanks very much for the suggestion.  It is just the kind of thing I was looking for.  Do you have any idea how this will affect sound quality, lip sync, cpu usage?  I will try and judge for myself anyway but I thought you might have a technical answer for us.
Title: Re: XBMC Eden 11 with support audio Dolby true HD and DTS HD

There are increased overheads involved in the software decoding, but not enough to effect the accurate buffering in Eden, and in AE once those buffer sizes are sorted out. So I wouldn't expect any change in the end-user experience except the receiver won't light up those pretty lights and it effectively eliminates DTS-HD playback in that mode until (or unless) DTS-HD transcoding is added. You would still get core-DTS in that case though.

Hi Wanilton - thx for making this available to eveyone. If you are using a git tool you can revert the commits *after* f573a9681cd2a793962d9958bcf7165a3921132a and you'll be at the most stable build for Windows users. Pls make sure you compile with optimization set to prefer faster over size and you should have a pretty stable build.  ;)

Could of curiosity, what do you define as a very high end system?

That's a *very* difficult question. Here's a go at what will playback well:

CPU - At least 1.8Ghz - as XBMC is not multiprocessor capable the number of cores is largely irrelevant
GPU - A dedicated GPU by nVidia or ATI with HDMI passthrough. DXVA2 acceleration for Windows.
RAM - 4GB - again, any more is not used by XBMC as it is 32bit

Combo boards - ppl have reported issues with I3, depends on video and audio throughput. 1080p and 8channel TrueHD is gonna be tough. I5+ is reported fine.

My test rig is a 1.8Ghz quad-core, 8GB RAM, ATI 6450 video card, Win 7 x64. With it (and using a stable build) I get 1080p + DTS-MA/TrueHD hw-accelerated without video or audio glitches. I can't recommend even a cheap recent GPU enough!

Well, my test, with changes in parameters, have positive results for me, when set off exclusive mode,  running mkv DTS-HD file, I turn OFF  DTS and AC3 compatible receiver too, and SET ON for DTS-HD, Dolby True HD and LPCM settings, the video and audio run fine, not problems, but when set ON to exclusive mode, same others settings, happens failed to initialize Audio Device, only when set ON DTS support again in audiosettings , work fine again, i need more tests.
For other videos and music, all fine for me. I noticed loss in sound volume when running video when turned off by setting to support for Dolby and DTS, LPCM leaving only the active.
Running flac, my volume is normal.

When I press the arrow to move the video forward, I lost the audio before, now is ok, this new version I'm not losing the audio.
I changed these values, for the purpose of which was the reference 500000 to 1000000 and 2000000 to 3000000.

My test using voxcommando send TTS sounds and audio 5.1 together for my receiver, work fine, thanks again for tip DDDamian,

New version, download new xbmc.exe, for me improve my results.

You guys are doing a stunning job.

What are the differences between exclusive mode and well not exclusive?  I am assuming non-exclusive you have issues it windows resampling

Sounds like my HTPC should be ok, i3 2100 at 3.1ghz with ati 5450 gpu.

Will test both builds at the weekend

Glad to have this all setup at last, HD audio is a must for me, as i spent a wee bit too much on a Denon 4308i for it a few years ago  :)

Debating picking up a Panny vt50 at the weekend, so getting excited, kind of sad i know  :)

@stevos - nice amp! I have the 3808CI plus a bunch of other Denon gear. Yes, your HTPC should be fine.

Exclusive mode demands direct communication with the audio driver to the exclusion of all other apps, and bypasses the windows mixer. This ensures that nothing interrupts the flow of audio from XBMC (short of the app not keeping up). The advantage is no molestation of the signal from the windows mixer such as resampling. Better sound. The disadvatages are: your audio device must support the sources format, no sounds from other apps.  If your audio device won't support (say) 24/192khz then windows will not downsample it - it will throw an error.

Hey folks,

The latest build by Wanilton includes an endless loop bug introduced after Jan.28th.  I did a build of the most stable version to date and posted it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?cg1r19l7es2rv2v (http://www.mediafire.com/?cg1r19l7es2rv2v). In that zip is a copy of my advancedsettings.xml. You would need to copy that to your userdata directory. If you wish to play with buffer sizes or other tweaks they are in that file. I also added a non-supported "Output stereo to all channels" routine as a little bonus - it will output a two-channel source to all speakers defined in your Control Panel settings when enabled in advancedsettings.xml.

Pls use at your own risk - install to a seperate directory and back up both your existing advancedsettings.xml and guisettings.xml.

Note that this is unsupported and not in any way an official release. But on my platform it is the most stable version to-date.

Enjoy  ;D

Hello DDDamian, your version work fine here, I changed this <allowd3d9ex>true</allowd3d9ex>, for false in advancedsettings, and done, before in true, i have a lot troubles running videos..
If possible, detail how work each parameter in advancedsettings for us..

Thanks again for this special version...

Hi Wanilton - glad it works for you. Here's a synopsis of my advancedsettings.xml:

Code: [Select]
<advancedsettings>
<audio>
<resample>0</resample>
<forceDirectSound>0</forceDirectSound>
<transcodeto>0</transcodeto>
<audiophile>1</audiophile>
<allchannelstereo>1</allchannelstereo>
<audiosinksizesharedmsec>120</audiosinksizesharedmsec>
<audiosinksizeexclusivemsec>100</audiosinksizeexclusivemsec>
</audio>
<gui>
<algorithmdirtyregions>1</algorithmdirtyregions>
<nofliptimeout>1000</nofliptimeout>
</gui>
<useddsfanart>true</useddsfanart>
<allowd3d9ex>true</allowd3d9ex>
</advancedsettings>

<resample>: force resampling at xxx khz. Use if your soundcard requires a certain sampling rate eg. 48000
<forceDirectSound>: as it states, even if WASAPI support is detected on your machine. I recommend leaving this off (0) unless you have trouble with WASAPI or are on Windows XP
<transcodeto>: forces transcoding of Dolby (AC3) to LPCM for devices which don't support it
<audiophile>: forces the output to remain true to the source and not be down-mixed or resampled. May cause delay in receiver switching to new formats, but purest reproduction of source
<allchannelstereo>: forces two-channel sources (CD, MP3, etc) to be output to all speakers per L/R mappings, with downmix for center and LFE. May be broken in this release as I had to revert some changes to avoid current bug
<audiosinksize(shared)(exclusive)msec>: the buffer duration in milliseconds for shared or exclusive modes. Can be increased to reduce discontinuities on slower hardware or decreased to reduce lag on skipping/fast-forwarding. Note that hard-coded minimums of 50msec override this value. Values under that ignored.

<algorithmdirtyregions>: can be 0-4. Different methods to reduce CPU load in repainting the GUI screen - see XBMC Wiki for details
<nofliptimeout>: Time in msec after which if no change occurs on the screen video buffer flipping stops - mostly good for battery usage

<useddsfanart>: hands over drawing of fanart images to DirectDraw for hardware acceleration and possible speed boost
<allowd3d9ex>: allows use of DirectX extensions for speed boost - not always compatible (as you found!)

Of primary use to folks here will be the <audiophile> settings if you have a lot of high-bitrate FLACS, etc and of course <audiosinksize(mode)msec> if you are experiencing sound dropouts during playback.

Cheers,
Damian

Particularly dangerous without a closing tag.  This could be related to your endless loop bug that you mentioned earlier.

Hello! First thanks for all the builds you are giving us lazy ones ;)

Just want to share that I at first had great trouble with DTS-HD and TrueHD. Maybe other formats too but didn't try at the time. XBMC locked up completly on every seek forward and also when pausing and then resuming. I changed the delays back and forth without any improvement. Not sure why but it turned out to be the Audiophile parameter. I set it to 0 and then all worked flawlessly.

Don't know if it has to do with my system, but that's a hint if others have problem too :)

Nvidia 460gtx, i7 cpu, win7
Pioneer VSX-LX55 receiver
Exclusive mode

I run 192khz 24bit in windows mixer.

Damn! That was it! Too many evil laughs (pinkie to corner of mouth) and no end tag locked up the loop!  :biglaugh

@zw4mp - welcome to these forums and thx for the tip - audiophile should only be used for music sources, not for passthrough of HD formats - will have to mod the code to bypass that when passing-through!

It won't Wanilton - all those settings are AE specific. You're better off with a fresh advancedsetting.xml and add whatever you normally use for Eden

Hi there - got a PM from Wanilton on this too. Just want to be clear - has a fresh (non-HD) compile from Master corrected this? I had a look through recent commits and didn't see anything that might affect this, but that's pretty far from exhaustive research  :D

this was a problem I had with Eden beta 3 on both the HD audio and the Vanillla XBMC installs.

Wanilton sent me a test build that seems to correct it, so I guess there was an error introduced just before they built beta 3.  Hopefully it will be gone in beta 4.

Maybe Wanilton will post his fix.  It is just the xbmc.exe that he sent me.

I'll wait to here back from Wanilton then just clarifying some details. If I need to do a fresh build of the HD audio version with latest master no problem, but I did one on the 11th and haven't seen what could have fixed this in recent commits. If it has been addressed in the last few days I'll get it merged and repost for you.

I think you might have another issue there - nothing I can see in recent updates would have cause eventghost to stop working - there's many who use it with Beta 3 for remote controls and there haven't been a rash of forum posts regarding an issue with it.

I switched back and forth between beta 2 and beta 3 about 5 times.  It always works fine in beta 2 and it never works in beta 3, so whatever other problem I have it is still tied to beta 3.  Can't imagine what it would be other than something being changed between beta 2 and 3.

Note that I can communicate fine with XBMC using both VoxCommando and EventGhost, it is just the keyboard emulation that is broken.  I like to use keyboard emulation for standard keys like up down left right, enter, escape, since it works with most programs.

Odd - Wanilton said it worked okay before I posted it here (gave him a private link to test). Might want to check with him if that's actually the case. If I see any other reported issues in the XBMC forums with EventGhost/keyboard emulation, or in the master branch concerning the same I'll let you know.

Been browsing the pre-Beta3 commits and there are a few regarding keymappings and profiles authored by JHSRennie - one of the devs who's also very active in the forums. I'd suggest posting there with the specifics as he's bound to see it (and I can make him aware of it if he doesn't). That's gonna be the surest way to get it fixed for you quickly.

In windows 32 bits, it´s work fine, the trouble is only  in pc with OS 64 bits I believe.

it is hard to believe, but enabling debug mode in xbmc "fixed" it.  I am now able to use keyboard emulation in Eden beta 3 on my 64 bit system, even after turning debug mode off again.

I don't understand.

Anyway, if I learn anything new or anything changes I will report my findings here.

James, Please answer post keyboard emulation in XBMC forum..

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=122887

The Question is:

Bearing in mind I've never used Eventghost, I need some more info. I've added a macro with the content you specify so From the root of the tree I now have a heading "Emulate keystrokes {Right}" and an item below this also called "Emulate keystrokes {Right}". I can execute the macro within Eventghost, but how do I tell it where to send the keypress?

I also tried adding the XBMC plugin and adding the macro under the XBMC heading, but executing the macro does nothing.

This is an awesome work and something I waited to get in XBMC since so long :) Thanks a lot for your work and for sharing it !

I grabbed the latest build with Eden Beta3+patch+global delay, did not put anything in my advancesettings.xml and it worked great for the most part. For one movie though (DTS-MA) it does skip audio every 10-15 seconds for about 500ms... is that what was referred earlier in the post? would that be fixed with the advancedsetting changes ?

Do you have documentation on the audio settings, I'm a bit confused with the choices... especially the one my reciever is capable of no DTS | DTS-MA | DTS-HD, my reciever does both, why do I have to pick one only ?

Last question :) Why is XBMC not incorporating your work in the release ? This is so needed !

Includes mainline Global AV Delay patch plus bug-fix, Portuguese (BR) language strings, German and Hungarian language strings, updated splash screen and speed optimizations.

For users who do not want to use the version with audio hd, can use the official version of xbmc:
Here link for official XBMC eden release candidate 1 (normal version) -> http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win32/xbmc-11.0-Eden_rc1.exe (http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win32/xbmc-11.0-Eden_rc1.exe) - there are one litte bug in implementation global av delay in this build, i compiled fixed version,
download here only xbmc.exe ->http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/XBMC.zip, overwrite xbmc.exe, after install official version, done.

Hello Friends, DDDamian detect on little bug in previous build, link for latest version with fix (xbmc eden release candidate 1 + audio HD) -> http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/XBMCSetup.exe (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25170804/XBMCSetup.exe).

The earlier builds used a pull from a11599 (Istvan)'s repo. Now that it's modified and pushed to master a merge resulted in two differing versions of the patch. A quick test didn't show any issues as I don't need to use this patch for sync.

Thanks DDDamian, for this build, this is great job.

Hi,

Thanks for the update :)

I'm new to the forum...registered followed this post

Since updating, I'm having a lot of jitters with DTS (and DTS-HD which never worked before on XBMC), sound is getting metalic from time to time for few seconds

anyone experienced this? any solution? same videos works fine under splash pro...so it's probably not an HW issue, might be XBMC mis-configuration?

Thanks,
Shani

Hello Shanibh, welcome to voxcommando forum, if you use XBMC HD version, try rename file advancedsettings.xml for advancedsettings2.xml, in this place,
C:\Program Files\XBMC\system..
Restart XBMC, and try run xbmc again, I hope this solve your troubles.

Voxcommando is a excelente tool for control xbmc, too.

Hello everyone,

Nice job for the HD audio support ! I've been using it for quite a while and it works really well except for that very last version (the one DanielaE worked on). If I activate the option to sync the display to the video (24p for instance) I have a very sluggish video and metallic distortion of the voices/music. It was'nt there with the RC versions ... With the option turned off it works well though.

Any idea where it might be coming from ?
