While in many cases the name of a given Windows process is self-evident (e.g. "firefox" or "XBMC"), sometimes process names are not what you would expect.

Obviously, if you use the incorrect name for a given process in VoxCommando, your command won't work properly. It can therefore be useful to access the Windows Task Manager in order to verify the correct name for a given process.

Accessing Windows Task Manager

Currently running Windows processes are viewable in the Windows Task Manager. You will need to have the process you're interested in already running before looking for it here. There are two easy ways to access the Task Manager.

  1. Press ctrl+shift+esc
  2. Right-click on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and select "Task Manager".

You may need to then click on the "Processes" tab if that tab is not currently in view.

Finding the Correct Process Name

The process name that VoxCommando requires is the name of the executable file, but without the ".exe" extension. So, for example, if you have Google Chrome running, you may see a process called "Google Chrome (32 bit)" appearing in your process list. If you right-click on this and select "Properties", the name of the executable is visible in the general tab: chrome.exe.

The process you should then call from within VoxCommando if you want to access Google Chrome in a given command would simply be: chrome.
