Title: Kodi Krypton- VC "Browse Movies" Command not bringing up Movie Titles window
Post by: grahamingram on January 08, 2017, 12:25:16 AM
Hi, I am new to VoxCommando and to posting in forums. I recently installed VoxCommando Version 2.2.2.9 with Kodi Jarvis (16.1). Everything worked perfectly with that version and I love VoxCommando! I have recently upgraded to Kodi Krypton (V17 release client) and noticed a few things were not working the same. When I say "Browse Movies" (using VoxWave) VC recognizes the command and sends it to Kodi and Kodi receives it and shows the command in the notification bar at the top of the screen but it does not open the Movie Titles library window. When I say "Play (title of a specific movie)" it does play that specific movie from my library without a problem. It is the same problem with my TV Shows Library. But my music library works fine, when I say "Browse Artists" it brings up the music library window without a problem. I am not super techy, I know Kodi pretty well but I am still learning VC. I have gone into the Xsql plugin and directed it to my databases after upgrading to Krypton (using the highest number available) and also purged the cache and clicked on "build missing grammers" and then restarted VC but it is still having the same problem. If anyone can help shed some light on this for me I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Graham. Welcome to VoxCommando.

Thank-you for your very thorough post. We had no problem identifying the issue right away.

It seems that Kodi has changed or removed some window names in Krypton. We haven't started using Krypton yet ourselves so did not notice.

In the case of "browse movies" you can fix this by clicking edit in VoxCommando, finding and editing the browse movies command, and changing the word videolibrary in the action parameters to videos.

There are a number of other commands that can be fixed in the same way.  Please let us know if you discover any new ones using a window name other than videolibrary that don't work.

We will put together a new default configuration for Krypton with these changes in the next release of VoxCommando.

A tip: You can use the search feature in your Command Tree Editor to search Actions for the term videolibrary.

The search results will show a list of all the commands containing that term. If you click on any item in the search results, the tree will navigate to (automatically jump/scroll to) the selected command to make it easier to locate in your tree.

The latest version of VC (2.2.3.4) includes a new Kodi Krypton configuration in English.

I'm having the same problem, but I can't find the Kodi Krypton configuration. Where did you find it?

EDIT: oh my... you said 2.2.3.4... I'm on 2.2.3.2... okay, I'll grab the beta.

EDIT 2: yepppp... I'm a dummy. It works with the new one. Amazing!

Those numbers do all start to look the same after a while.

Is there any chance you could post a list of the changed parameters so I can amend them manually?

videolibrary is the only window name that Kodi has changed as far as we know.

Hi Wanilton.

Thanks for the list.  It looks like a useful reference.

As far as I know we are not using any of these in our preset configuration for Kodi Isengard except for videolibraries.

In the configuration for Krypton that we created this is the only thing that we updated.

As far as PVR goes we can't test these but the only commands we have that contain "pvr" in their actions are "Show Program Guide" and "Scan P V R".  I think that these command should still keep working "as is" because "Show Program Guide" uses the window ID "pvrosdchannels" which still seems to be valid and "Scan P V R" uses the JSON-RPC command "PVR.Scan" which seems to still be a valid command:

Please let me know if we missed anything.

The XJson.Btn.KB command no longer seems to work either.  So commands like 'go up' or 'context menu' don't work.
The best workaround I've found is using the SendKeys command instead.

The best workaround I've found is using the SendKeys command instead.

I have not found that to be the case.  I've tested on two different systems running Kodi Krypton 17.1 and in both cases the xJson.Btn.KB actions continue to work as expected.

You might want to check your settings in Kodi.

You might need to enable "Expert" mode in Kodi to see all the settings.

I believe that for xJson.Btn.KB to work the setting "Allow remote control from applications on this system" must be enabled.  This is part of the normal setup instructions we provide for Kodi: http://voxcommando.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Installation_Kodi#Set_up_Kodi.2FXBMC_to_allow_communication_with_VoxCommando

There is a bug in the skin "Aeon MQ7 2.0.7.2" for Kodi Krypton that prevents the "Find/Browse Movie XYZ" command from working.  The problem is that the skin does not display the current video playlist correctly (it just shows a black screen regardless of what is on your playlist).

This is not a problem with VC or Kodi, just with that particular skin and as far as I know it only affects that one command, because it adds the movie to the queue and then opens the video playlist.  Other similar commands are using a smart playlist instead which works fine.  If you run into this problem you must switch to a different skin, until the MQ7 skin is fixed, or modify the command to use a smart playlist.

As far as I know everything else works normally with VoxCommando and Krypton as long as you are using our updated configuration or have updated your own as described in this thread, to use the correct Window IDs.
