Stay clear of "Aerb-MX3-M" air remotes with microphones
« on: January 18, 2017, 01:40:34 AM »
I own an Aerb-MX3-M with out a microphone for my traveling media center and it works great.

so I decided to find one that has a microphone and the mic is awful (that's putting it mildly) I could only get it to register one phrase, and all the other phrases like "Lights Please" would be seen as "We're Home" with a confidence ranging from 10% to 50%

nothing I did seemed to help make it any better.

there are several different sellers of these remotes and have different names but are all the same except for the microphone
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FVR2FZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I thought I would post this in case someone else might be looking for a similar remote

if your are looking for a  Air mouse/Remote/qwerty keyboard all in one then this remote works great, but if you want to use the microphone you will be extremely Disappointed like I'am :'(

That's a shame. It's not too surprising I guess at such a low price.

Did you try making a recording of your voice to see what it sounds like?

Maybe you could test it with the SP version of VoxCommando. I know it won't serve your needs but I'm curious to know if it works better. Maybe the sound transport is similar to what we get in a Bluetooth microphone.

I did two recordings one with the built in mic on my laptop and one with the remote. the one with the remote was much quieter then the laptop mic and contained some static, I checked device properties and the mic volume is already set to 100% and there is no Microphone Boost available like the laptop mic has.

is there anyway to amplify the mic volume other then in the device properties?

Thanks kalle, I gave Equalizer APO a try, I had to track down a different GUI as the one mentioned in that thread isn't available, but the program amplified the volume but I still get the same results, I think it's due to the static

I attached 3 audio files for reference

Laptop Microphone Test.wav (base line for a good mic)

Remote Mic Test.wav (untouched Audio from remote)

Remote Microphone amplified Test.wav (Amplified Audio feed, using Equalizer APO)

Edit: the files are to big, here's a dropbox link

I tried each of your audio files with VoxCommandoSP.exe version and get all time 92-95% confidence.

None of the files is recognized with the normal VoxCommando.exe version  :o

That's odd, do you think it's the static in the background then?

I guess it's good that it works with the SP version

Yes, there is a lot of ground noise in the sound - I think bad microphones or bad sampling frequencies.

Don't forget, the SP version can't use payload dictation if you use it in your commands.

I played a bit with your audio files and find a nice virtual input program (it is free) which gives good results - also in the normal VoxCommando version
If you lower the high frequencies in the "Virtual Input" to -12db, you will get the best results (in my case)

voicemeter: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Voicemeeter/index.htm

virtual cable driver: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/index.htm

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As alternative to the Voicemeter above the "banana" version with more control: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Voicemeeter/banana.htm

I tried VB-Audio VoiceMeeter, it did help a little. it raised the confidence level but it still didn't correctly understand what I was saying,

I don't know if doing Windows speech recognition training with the remote mic would help or not, but I decided to call it and return the remote

Thanks for all the help  ::bow

Yes, good idea to send it back - this remind me that Paul (MrWolf) has tested a similar device with good results

Yeah I checked that one out first, but with my kids and wife, I need a remote that has buttons that are self explanatory. I have to make sure it has WAF or I'll here "how do I..." or "what button is it to...."  every five minutes.

Then again that just means I run the remote and no more chick flicks  ::happy lol

Haha, ok - then you can use a cheap android phone or tablet with VoxWav (for voice commands) and iRule (for the button surface)  ;)

That's what I was thinking, amazon's Fire 7 tablets are decent and only gets better when you root them, add tasker and for less then $55.00 you can make any remote you want. Just need to find the time to build the remote

Yes, that is cheap - I prefer iRule instead of tasker, because it let you design a remote with any graphics and it is easy to build macros etc. , but it is not cheap (50$ US).
