General / Problems with Activation/License Servers
« on: November 11, 2019, 05:31:21 PM »
We are currently experiencing problems with our licensing and activation system.

Our activation server is hosted on the cloud by SmarterASP.

On Saturday November 9th, SmarterASP was hacked.  SmarterASP is in the process of fixing things but at the moment our activation pages are not functioning properly.  I'm looking into it.

If you are buying a new license, or if you are trying to activate using an existing activation key then at the moment it is not going to work.

I will post back here once I think the issue has been resolved.

Thanks to all who are affected by this for your understanding and patience (I hope) :).

Here is some basic info about what happened.

New Releases / Major update ALPHA 2.3.0.*
« on: August 07, 2019, 12:00:23 PM »
I normally put all new releases on the main download page of the VoxCommando website.

In this case I have been working on so many different changes in the core program that I feel it would be best to release an Alpha version here before putting it somewhere that may confuse new users.

The beta releases are now back on the regular download page:

https://voxcommando.com/home/downloads/

The information below is still important:

Added 2 new plugins:  GTTS and AccuW  (more on these later).  Both these plugins require the user to set up their own credentials to use the required cloud services.  At the moment it's free but there are extra steps.

Changes to the core program:

64bit.  VC was always compiled as a 32bit program for compatibility reasons.  The new version of VoxCommando has 4 executibles to choose from instead of two.

VoxCommando.exe (Will run on 64 bit machines as 64 bit application but will still run on 32 bit machines - does anyone still have one?)
VoxCommando32.exe (Will run as 32bit.  This is similar to previous versions of VC)
VoxCommandoSP.exe  (As above but the SP version of the speech engine - 64bit)
VoxCommandoSP32.exe (As above but the SP version of the speech engine -32bit)

I would recommend using the 64bit versions unless you run into a compatibility issue.  For example, some TTS voices will only run on 32bit and some others will only run on 64bit.  Most TTS voices *should* run on either.

Other core changes:
Action parameters are now multi-line.  I had to create a home-grown autocomplete for variables to work on multi-line text boxes but the good news is that we can use autocomplete anywhere in the parameter text box now, not just in a blank text box.

Compiled now using .NET 4.5.2 instead of 4.5.1.  This should not be noticeable in any way.  Eventually we will move to 4.6.1 but I did not want to rock the boat too much more than I already have.

Regex Tool.  Changed how line endings are evaluated in the tool window (\r\n instead of \n) so that it will match the way actions work.

RoboB plugin(RoboBrowser) : Minor but important bug fixes.

Please use this version and report any issues.  If you are updating an existing configuration please be sure to back up your whole folder first!

These instructions were kindly updated by Rablack in October 2018.

Some things have changed since then and the setup guide to follow in NOT on this thread.  The original guide may still be useful though so we are leaving this tread in tact.

The new recommended guide can be found at the following address:

Many thanks!  :)

For those of you who may have missed it here is the preview/demo of VoxWear 2.0

First of all a really big thank-you to Kalle for providing me with the Huawei watch for development and testing. This never would have happened otherwise!

This video shows off the new beta version of VoxWav (called VoxWear 2.0) which is coming soon to the Google Play store and is customized to run on Android Wear 2.0.

This is an early beta (alpha?) developed and tested on a Huawei version 1 watch running a developer preview of Wear 2.0.  This version of the app turns Bluetooth off on startup and enables WiFi in order to make direct WiFi communication to VoxCommando possible.

The video shows tilt to speak mode, and then a close-up of the UI and the push to speak method.  Other features shown include text to speech on the watch, OSD messages and clickable alternates commands list on the watch.

The app UI includes time, date, and battery percentage.

Off Topic (not related to VC) / Hack your nest

I don't own a Nest thermostat but for those who do this looks like an interesting idea.

BEAM IR/RF Wifi transceiver / News, demos, and tutorials for the BEAM
« on: February 14, 2016, 11:30:08 AM »
Thanks to the hard work of Kalle and David who really spearheaded this project and did all the initial work in getting this device up and running (and with some suggestions and contributions to software by me) we are just about ready to start sending out some early versions of the BEAM to our beta testers.

For those of you who have been patiently waiting for news about the BEAM I have created a video to give you an idea of what we have achieved so far and what you will be able to do with the device when it is ready to ship.

The video (playlist) below shows an early prototype model of the BEAM Sphere (not the final physical design, and with some battle wounds) but with the latest firmware so it should behave the same, it just doesn't look as good.

About the BEAM:
The BEAM Sphere is a wifi device. You can place it anywhere in your home and communicate with it through your local area network. All it needs is a good quality 5 volt 1 amp micro USB power supply. Its primary purpose is to control other devices in your home that use infrared and radio frequency codes.

The BEAM has been designed to learn IR and RF codes from whatever devices you have.

The Sphere is not just a blaster – it can also be used as a receiver, which means that you can use the various IR or RF remotes that you have in your home to trigger events, and that will allow you to further automate things in your home using VoxCommando.

The range will vary, depending on your devices, but in our tests we have had no problems controlling IR devices such as TVs and stereos from across the room. We’re still testing our RF ranges. The results have been inconsistent so far. RF sending shows a good range controlling devices through walls and the like. With RF reception (for learning codes or generating events), however, we’re still having inconsistent results.

It is also an RGB globe; you can use it as a mood light, or for practical communication purposes. For example, you can have it change colours when VoxCommando recognizes commands, or when it fails to recognize commands.

Here are a couple of videos showing the BEAM setup and basic operation.

The images below are also not of the final design but are much closer to it and will give you a better idea of the level of fit and finish that Kalle is producing.  Please note that these are still hand assembled by Kalle.  This means that the fit and finish will not be at the same level and a Samsung or Apple product, but they are still pretty good IMO.  It also means that the speed at which the devices can be assembled and shipped is still quite limited.

The final design of the PCB has been ordered and we are just waiting for it to be created in China and delivered to Kalle in Germany.  Then he will be able to begin assembly.  We also have some earlier versions of the PCB already in stock that are almost identical in functionality and we may ship some of these out to beta testers soon.  It's up to Kalle.

We have a fully functional OTA update system now which means that we will be able to make new versions of the firmware available as we make changes.  Updating the firmware is very easy.  It's as simple as downloading  a file and then uploading it to the BEAM through the web interface.  I'm not actually sure if this qualifies as Over The Air but it's done through Wifi so you don't need to plug your BEAM into a computer to update it.
